COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Voilá! A beer from chilly Quebec inspired by the "rauchbier" you find in Bamberg, Germany — a dark beer made partly from smoked malt, aged slowly at low temperatures, and put in the bottle unfiltered, with a fine yeast sediment. All for one!

Bottle. Body-nearly opaque with a dense eighth inch head. Nose-stinks, rotten melons, smoked malts. Taste-some smoke, tastes like you took cantaloupe aqua fresca, strained it into a glass rubbed your finger in a toilet and an industrial bakery, dipped your finger into the strained juice, fermented the juice in the back of an old beat up Chevy parked in the blazing sun of the Sonora desert for a year, poured the result into an ashtray, gave it a good shake, then bottled it. Yup. That’s what it tastes like.

750ml bottle. Murky brown with tan head, smoke, syrup, malt, some molasses, metallic, bit of caramel. High carbonation, metal again, mildly sweet, some vegetable, bit of smoke throughout but light finish. Tried to let it breath but the metal just wouldn’t disappear...

Bottle. Dry chocolate ashtray malt and stale coffee grounds in the nose. Smoked malt shows up more as it warms but doesn’t redeem the awful malt in this beer. Burnt and smoked nut shells and a mild plastic note join the old coffee grounds and ashtray. It turns slightly sweet (bacon/maple) in the finish but is killed by a watery and thin body.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate, husks), with light notes of smoke and charred wood. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, slightly unclean. Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Rather dull, with some rough edges (poor malt character, unpleasant twang and aftertaste).

Pours dark brown with a light brown head made of large bubbles. Aroma of smoke and malts. Sweet smokey flavor with a bit of sour flavor around the edges of the tongue. I have to admit that I generally don’t like smokey beers and this one is no different. A bit too sweet without enough other flavor to cut the sweetness.
