(Rating #7436)

My Bottom Line:
This clean and drinkable Vienna-style Lager focuses on its lightly toasted malts and lean body to provide a quenching pint.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the misty amber.
-Herbal hops are delicate but present.
-Toasted malts also develop nut skin allusions.
-Hops share some fruitiness too.
-Carbonation is a bit too low for this type of slender body.

Bottle.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear copper color lager with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt notes is more powerful then I was expecting. Taste is dominated by sweet caramelized malt notes with some light cereal notes also discernable. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but caramelization level was higher than I was expecting and a bit too much residual sugar for the style IMO.

500ml bottle from Monde des Bières. Best before April 2016
Appearance : Clear amber with medium foamy amber-ish head.
Aroma : Cereals and spicy hops. Light caramel and herbal hops. Slightly mineral.
Taste : Spicy hops with caramel malts. Finish sweet-ish malts with spicy and herbal hops.
Palate : Body a bit sweet for the style.
Overall : Nothing really special here. Decent example but nothing to write home about. A bit too sweet and a bit too spicy. Nothing bad...

On tap at brewpub. A clear copper amber with a short lived white head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, sugar. Flavor is malt, caramel, roast, brown sugar. Finish is herbs, nice, lingering bitterness, along with roasted caramel. Medium body, soft mouthfeel and average carbonation.

Bouteille - 500ml.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear very deep amber with a modest off-white head. Aroma: Reasonably rich melanoidin maltiness, a bit of woodsy, floral hops, a little sulphur, fairly clean though. Palate: Medium body, fairly full, smooth carbonation. Flav.: Very malty with lots of bread crust and melanoidin, a little Noble hop presence, faint sulphur, quite clean; dry with low to moderate bitterness and a pleasant, clean malty finish.

Hits the mark for a Vienna. Nicely executed.

Sample(s) thanks to Minderbinder! Pours a dak golden (almost copper but not quite) with a small offwhite head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of cereals with a specific wheat germ or bran feel to it. Taste has a slight metallic bite on the first sip but it all goes away after that and leaves you with honeyed cereals, caramel and a light fruitiness. Body is medium, carbonation moderately high and mouthfeel a bit light but it makes it pretty drinkable so it’s all good. A nice and clean vienna, great first impression with me for that new brewery!

on tap on the premises. clear burnt orange with a small off-white cap, minimal retention and lacing. nutty and fruity caramel, woodsy if not woody - english butter toffee, earthy burnt pine nuts, orange fruitiness, some sweetness - treacle, slightly buttery english/german yeast. average to light carbonation, light body - oily; semi-sweet earthy-grassy finish. could be a bit more attenuated. tasty specialty malts feature. nice vienna.
