Can. Pours mostly clear deep gold, small white head, decent lacing. Aroma is pine, hints of grapefruit. I suppose prickly pear? Not really sure. Flavor is light sweet and light plus bitter. Medium body, a bit light perhaps. Mostly just an APA.

As Lewis and Clark travelled across the country, they ate prickly pears, and dranks pale ales. Lucky fucking bastards.

Clear nice copper and bronzed coloured body with a dense, three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of fruit (I guess it’s cactus fruit?), light malt, earth, a touch of toffee and nutty hops and a bit of pungency. Light-bodied; Strong malty flavour with some nuts, earth and toffee and a touch of light fruits - along with a touch of sugars, but not much flavour at all, and absolutely no hops. Aftertaste shows a bit of funkiness from the fruit and stale malt and cardboard with only a touch of nice flavours - the sweetness and a bit of the earthy malt notes. Overall, a pretty poor beer in general, with some decent complexity and interesting flavours, but nothing really works in this one and is way too thin, coupled with the fact that there are absolutely no hops, but the outside clearly states ’pale ale’. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Vintage Sellers in Great Falls, Montana on 20-June-2016 for US$1,75 sampled at home in Washington on 20-October-2016.

Poured from a 12 ounce can. A hoppy aroma, pine and citrus, there is a light fruity note. I do not get much in the way of prickly pear, but I do not know what to be looking for. There is a good malt character, bready, light caramel. A good beer.

12 oz. can, bought at Smith’s in Bozeman. Pours hazy, yellow, with a small, bubbly beige head. The aroma is pear, grapefruit, and honey. Sweet and lightly bitter. Light body, smooth, and slick. This is a smooth, fruity beer.

At SAVOR 2016. Poured a straw golden color with a small fizzy head. Aroma was some light fruit notes. Touch herbal. I got a little bit of apple juice cider notes, with a little bit of citrus here.

Savor 2016: Mud aroma. Clear amber, medium head. Flavor is clay and yeast. Light body, easy carbonation. Not much prickly pear character, which is fine by me.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a golden orange color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is heavy of a sweeter citrus smell mixed with a little bit of a tropical fruit aroma. Along with these smells comes some other aromas of a pear and passionfruit smell as well as a bit of a grapefruit and bready aroma. Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat sweeter flavor of a tropical fruit and orange nature with a little bit of a citrus hop right at the start. As the taste moves on, the sweeter fruits fade a bit, but is replaced by some prickly pear sweetness, which upholds some of sweet style of the beer (sweet, but not too sweet.) All the while some other flavors of a light bready nature come to the tongue and with a lighter herbal and grainy taste, bring an overall rather nice blend of hop, sweet fruit, and malt to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is rather low to average. A little higher carbonation may have been slightly better for the style, but overall it was OK. Overall – A rather decent cactus fruit brew overall. Pretty easy drinking with enough cactus fruit to keep it authentic, without having too much to make it obnoxious. Good overall.

6 oz pour from refrigerated can into sniffer glass. Moderate white head, hazy, yellow. Super sweet nose. Fruity. A yellow bitter. Pleasant. A little fruity.
