Tasted on 7/29/12 on draft at the brewpub with Erika. Pours cloudy deep mahogany with a thin tan head that leaves very thin lace. The nose is bitter resin hops with a touch of molasses and dark bread. The flavor is light on the malt for a black IPA, but has plenty of resin hops and molasses. The body is medium with lively carbonation and a long bitter resin hops and touch of dark malt finish. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 23, 2012
On tap at LAB. Some pine, citrus, and roast in the nose. Same character in the flavor with some pronounced hop bitterness. Medium body. Travlr (24755) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JUL 14, 2012
Draft at the source. Very dark brown, beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of coffee and pine. Taste is bitter roasted pine. b3shine (8872) - Indiana, USA - JUN 14, 2012
Tap to taster at the LAB. I assume this beer is the same as the Black IPA I’m drinking, but it’s listed at 6% and the beer I’m drinking is 5.8, so... Looks good; dark with nice lacing. Smells pretty good; hoppy and malty. Tastes solid; good balance. Good mouthful too. Their best beer IMO. zizzybalubba (1869) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - JUN 8, 2012
On tap at The LAB in Asheville. Dark brown cola-like pour with a thin off-white head. Faint floral hop aroma. The flavor begins with floral and grapefruit hops and finishes with a light amount of chocolate. Medium bodied. Nice beer!
