3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From what I have seen of other reviews this is a rave beer. A rock star of double IPAs, this beer sends reviewers in paroxysms of delight. From what I have been enjoying over the last fifteen minutes there may be good reason for this.
Deep orange amber colour with little enduring head, I have seen prettier beers. Aromas of massive hoppy tangerine, chlorophyll, green spruce cones and undertones of amber malts. My feeling is that the malt aromas play very much a second fiddle to the hops in this style but there are examples of balance (see Middlemiss Hodgson IPA). The flavour is just a massive surge of bitterness all at once. A cascade (forgive the unintentional hop pun) of hop driven flavours all struggling to make themselves felt at once like a hoard of children finding easter eggs. Tastes significantly of oranges, tangelo and tangerine with some gooseberry with the malt, while taking that back seat, making gentle suggestions that it too is there.
Is it rave-worthy? Probably. I found it nice enough and I think my rating is justifiable.
On tap at Brewski. Pours clear amber with thin white head that still gave decent lacing. Nice mix of caramel malt and fruity citrus hop from aroma through to the palate leading to a spicy, broad bitter finish CurlyJoe (312) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 25, 2017
Clear dark golden orange with very quickly disappearing head. Quite a piney aroma, as well as bitter citrus. Taste is very sticky and sweet, hints of booze but not overpowering. Pine, citrus, it’s all there. No defining hop taste, citra could shine a bit more. Oily and sticky in the mouth. Dredd (972) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - MAY 8, 2017
First thing - This is a big beer at 9% ABV, but holds its booze well. Aroma is a mix of toffee sweetness, grapefruit citrus. Initial mouthfeel is lots of malt, plenty of toffee sweetness and a pleasant bitter/sour. Given the 99IBU, the finish isn’t too long. Gurthnar (6197) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - APR 12, 2017
Bottle at a tasting. Typical American style IPA - considerable balancing sugary caramelly maltiness in the backbone. However hops bitterness and character hold the high ground, orange, citrusy, fruity, resiny. Rich and intense, yet balanced. Great one! Cuso (8935) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - APR 12, 2017
Can from MartinB, many thanks. Orange golden color with medium white head. Aroma of caramel malt, light citrus hops, alcohol. Taste, sweet malty base followed by distinct citrus hoppy bitterness with alcohol. Long hoppy bitter finish. Very good.

(500ml bottle) Pours a clear orange body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of orange, caramel, lemon, and toffee. Flavor of orange, lemon, grapefruit, bread, caramel, and grass with a dry, bitter finish. User369532 (909) - - JAN 19, 2017
Bottle. Amber color, hazy liquid, white head. Aroma of grapefruit, zest. Medium heavy bitter. Excellent. bmeup (680) - Ormeau, AUSTRALIA - JAN 2, 2017
330ml bottle BB 5.5.17.Nearly clear and more golden than orange, decent clingy head. Strong sweet malts, mandarin and orange zest, tangy lime, some savoury and spiciness, not snappy and has long bitterness on the tongue that will not wash away. Quite an alcohol presence though very nicely covered with the malt and big hops but oohh! look out, Liberation maybe a danger:)) KeefOz (1913) - Tarragindi, AUSTRALIA - NOV 4, 2016
Poured a crystal clear mid-amber with a two-finger beige dense foam head that retained very well diminishing to a nice cap and laced well. Carbonation high and fine. Aroma of grapefruits with topical fruits, pine and pale malt; strong and pleasant nice IPA aroma; alcohol well hidden. Taste of sweet citrus/orange upfront plus tropical fruits with the sweetness balancing the slight alcohol presence; moderate to strong bitterness; not as much citrus as expected. Medium body. Smooth with a moderate to strong bitterness and slight alcohol presence on the finish. Becomes very much ’standard’ IPA-like as it warms. Light amber color with good head.
Full on citrus hop aroma with grassy and grapefruit notes.
Medium bitterness with a clean crisp zesty tang finish.
The 9% ABV lurks in the background.
