12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/19/2015. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, wood, slight dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, wood, slight dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, smoke, char, herbal, wood, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from roast/hop bitterness than increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Foreign stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on to style expectations. katrinaez (1894) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 16, 2016
Nice coconut style flavor was interesting. Roasted, vanilla, cocoa and marshmallow. Nice dark color.tap kipper8588 (32) - - NOV 4, 2015
This beer has a very good flavor for a stout however it has almost no after taste. The flavor is hard to describe as it is very brief and disappears quickly. Would drink again

From the bottle. Aroma of ash and chocolate syrup. Flavor of molasses, caramel, ash, nuts. A bit thin on flavor and mouthfeel. Not bad flavor though. It works. arminjewell (9584) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAR 7, 2015
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, coffee, nice nutty note into some earth, ashy note into some roasted malt, slight spice. Taste was a mix of roast, coffee, some slight dark fruit, touch of ashy into a hint of anise, slight oaty, coarse malts into a bit acid, slight spice, finishing bitter.

It took me an hour to pour this beer, then another hour shaking it around a bunch to get the carbonation down to a manageable level to be able to drink. Waaaaay overcorbonated in my opinion. The beer itself is sort of a no-frills dry stout. Roasty malt, if you smell hard enough thereís a hop... Yeah. Not so impressed with this one... Which is sad because I really wanted to like this brewery. Krej (224) - USA - DEC 4, 2014
Boy I this a foreign beer... When I first opened it and poured it into a bottle, I poured about an ounce of it and it foamed up the rest of the glass. This is the most carbonated beer Iíve ever had. It took me about a half an hour to pour because it kept foaming up ridiculously. I even poured it as soft as I could but that didnít help at all. By time I got to taste it, it was basically warm. It doesnít really taste like anything either... Maybe a tiny bit of chocolate stout and a fuck load of CO2... I only got this beer because I wanted something from liberty Street since I might move close to them, but I donít think Iíll ever get this beer gain... koleminer20 (3463) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - NOV 20, 2014
From notes. Finally getting around to adding beers from the Detroit Zoo Brew! Enjoyed on September 26. The pour is a nice dark brown, almost black, with a off white medium head that fallc down to a ring. The aroma is incredibly roasty. There is a strong chocolate presence and a lot of malt throughout the nose. The flavor is just as youíd expect. A lot of roast, some bitterness as if there is a little coffee there, and some strong cocoa. The malts are probably more powerful than any stout Iíve had in a while. The mouth feel is definitely thin, The carbonation does a nice job helping it feel more velvety than it should. The aftertaste is dry and lingeringly bitter, like a cross of roasted malt and spent coffee. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 15, 2014
12oz bottle, thanks to umich03jm. Bottled 2/05/14. Pitch black color. Pours with an overly big fizzing light brown head, most of which stays put. One of those beers where you have to wait for the head to die down before being able to pour the rest of the bottle. Medium body. Kind of rough, stronger carbonation, with a soft texture. Kind of thin mouthfeel overall. Takes awhile for the carbonation to die down, and as it does, this becomes more drinkable and it becomes easier to taste the flavor, though the rough edge never fades.. Some dark chocolate, cocoa, metallic. Light dark fruit. Moderate bitter, kind of tingly light tart taste. Tastes like an off bottle. Not awful, but difficult to drink. Did not finish. Looks like all the tap entries had glowing reviews. Myself and the other guy who rated a bottle seem to be drinking a much different beer than what is on tap. bwa5879 (940) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAY 6, 2014
Very explosive opening, overflowing beige head. Once cleaned up it settled to a dark brown to black. Cottony aroma of floral hops and smokey campfire malt. Fairly low carbonation, really foamy yet thin watery mouthfeel, finishes a little smokey but mostly clean. Bitter licorice and campfire roast flavor, burned smoked meat taste too. Thin flavor reminds me more of a porter. Too much carbonation, flavor is okay but everything else is flawed.
