This is the beer we’ve been wanting to make since we began planning the brewery. Gentleman Farmer is our attempt to add terroir (the taste of place) to beer.

Bottle from a friend. Poured a deep copper color with a moderate, bubbly off-white head that slowly faded to a ring. Some brighter citric fruits (lemon) paired with a softer orange sweetness imparted by the hops, light caramel, moderate earthiness, and some light resin on the nose. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with soft touches of caramel lead into a delicate orange fruitiness paired with a soft earthiness followed moderately bitter, dry hoppiness with some light resin, a hint of pine, and some biting lemon fruitiness. Low carbonation, light, delicate mouth feel capped by a moderate dryness, inviting you to keep drinking despite the ABV. Overall, it differs from a lot of the typical APA’s available today, leaning towards more of a balance between flavors rather than just outright hops.

Bottle. Nice color with big head. Light hop aroma on the sweeter side with some vegetal-ness. I mainly get betweenness in the flavor, but it is still moderate. Long finish.

Nice fresh hops, but still with a nice malt background and lots of length on the palate. Nutty, with pit fruit and an herbal quality.

Bottle, courtesy of a kind soul... shared in a location remote of my dining room.
Pours a light orange color with a small head and decent lacing on the glass.

The aroma is earthy with some bright hoppiness and some hay.

The flavor is nicely floral, bright, and bitter. It’s pleasantly dry with light fruity notes.

Simple, but all together enjoyable,.

Poured from a bottle it is a clear golden color with a frothy head. The aroma is peach and the taste is a string tart taste that lingers more metallic than hints of peach

Location: 750 ml bottle from Total Wine - Manassas, 10/12/14, Batch #1

Aroma: The nose is sugary malt, a good amount of caramel, buttery notes, and some light hops
Appearance: It pours a cloudy dark orange color with a thick, frothy beige head and decent lace
Flavor: The tropical fruit and peach come through more here, with some sweet malts and spice
Palate: Medium bodied, has a decent mouthfeel, slightly sticky, and a bit too much carbonation
Overall Impression: Goochland in the house! I was excited to see this in the store, because it is really good to see that these guys are already distributing up to NOVA. I was pretty impressed when I visited the brewery back in the spring. There is definitely something right going on here, and I definitely think these guys should keep at it (not that they need me to tell them that), even if this wasn’t my favorite of their beers. I’m still definitely a fan of this brewery overall, and I would happily try the next batch of this beer to see if it changes my opinion.
