Bottle. Pours a purple black colour with a very bubbly short lasting puple-reddish head. Aroma of cassis indeed with a good sweetness and sourness. the flavour has planety of cassis, sweetness, nice sourness. Sweet and sour fruity dry finish. Beer #3 at Croydon Draught Belgian Beer Festival. One of the murkiest, muddiest looking beers I’ve ever had on draught. And pink mud is a very odd appearance indeed. The cassis is very pronounced, with cough sweets and pear drops. Maybe something a little clammy in the aroma. Juicy and fruity, but a bit sweet and simple. Like other Liefmans fruit beers, there seems something a little synthetic about the fruit to me. There’s a touch of late sharpness, but not really enough to temper the sweetness. Despite misgivings, I still found myself enjoying this.

Belgian Draught Beer Festival, Croydon, London. Sweet cough lolly like sweetness. Obvious cassis characters. Some tart sourness makes this at least bearable to drink. Otherwise this was a little too sweet.
Draught: Cloudy mud brown, with a tan head. Strepsil? Cough lolly aroma. Sweet blackcurrant all the way through. A little dry and slightly tart in the finish. Medium bodied, perfectly drinkable though a bit unbalanced.

500 ml bottle, imported and doubtless left on the shelf awaiting me for a good long while.
Nose is like a batch of blackberry's that have set in the cellar too long--a bit musty with an acidic wang on the backend.
Nice effervesence and a nice, light purple/pink head of fine bubbles.
The first taste is tame for a lambic--the sour pucker is not quite equalled by the fruity berry flavor of the currants. The palate of this lambic isn't fresh and crisp as it should be--perhaps due to too long on the shelf, or perhaps not. In any case, this is a nce sparkling fruit beer that makes for a nice apertif. the white hoss seems to be the only place you can get this stuff. basically liefmans kriek - cherries +ribena = cassis. the blackcurrant stuff is tasty enough, but the brown ale base is what i really like - beautiful, subtle blend of sourness, wood and malt. good stuff. Sampled on tap at the White Horse, Parson's Green, London...and I can't believe you missed this Per. Muddy brown with purple highlights; rich currant aroma and flavour, sweet malts and an acidic finish - bursts with flavour. Complex, refreshing, probably my favourite of the Liefmans beers now that the Goudenband is half of what it used to be.
