COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This classy beer represents the perfect marriage between the fresh accents and slightly acidic flavour of the black cherries. Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a mixed fermentation beer, with every hectolitre containing up to 13 kilos of fruit! Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a perfect blend of Oud Bruin and Goudenband from different vintages, and can consist of between 15 and 20 different batches of beers. The beer is matured for 18 months, bringing out the very best of its intense flavour. Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a deep reddish-brown colour, with a pale head and wood and almond notes. On the palette, you can clearly taste the slightly sweet, yet at the same time gently bitter fruit flavours. This is a beer that just oozes class

(375ml bottle, vintage 2004, best by 9/14, 5% ABV) Large beige head with pink notes, atop a clear red body. Aroma is medium sweet, sour cherry, light barnyard, oak. Taste is moderately sweet, cherry, light tartness/sourness, faint oak. Low carbonation, slightly sticky light-medium body, quite drinkable. Needs a bit more tartness and carbonation, but it does pretty well despite these quibbles.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2010 Re-rate 12/4/10: Bottles at a tasting. Thanks to the Norman Premium guys. 2005 bottle. Deep reddish brown. Aroma of cherries, oak, sugar (some burnt sugar) and malt. Sweet flavor of cherries and wood. 7/3//6/3/13=3.2
2004 bottle. Aroma of brett, lactic notes and some cherries. Sour bretty flavor with malty notes, light sweetness, oak and a bit of citrus and astringency in the finish. Medium-bodied. Very tasty. A lot better and more real-sour-ale-like than all the other bottles Ive had, I wonder what made it change so much. 7/4/8/3/15=3.7

Re-rate 5/6/09: Sample from a bottle brought by some guy from Moortgat to Maabarot beer festival. Cherries, lots of sugar and very mild sourness. Medium-bodied. 7/3/7/3/14=3.4

(2/29/08) Bottle at Kulminator in Antwerp. 2003 bottle. Deep reddish brown color with a small off white head. Cherries, some wood and a bit of sugar in the aroma. Sweet flavor of cherries, a bit of marzipan, sugar, and a bit of acidity and notes of wood. medium-bodied. Not bad and quite enjoyable but lacks a more decent amount of acidity. 7/3/6/3/13=3.2

Bottle from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. It pours cloudy deep red/near purple, with a large off-white head. The nose is jam, sweet cherry, artificial fruit, hint of tanginess and light vinegar The taste is juicy cherry, hint of sourness, wood, red grape, jam, lime, honey and some vinegar, with a sweet-sour finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Not bad, but I would have preferred more sourness.

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a cloudy red with small creamy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is strawberry and cherry. Thin mouthfeel with a strong tart and strawberry with light sour finish. A very impressive sour ale from Liefmans.
