Infinitely complex in aroma and flavor with notes of maltiness and tartness throughout. An unsurpassed old brown with the richness and complexity of a vintage wine.

Dark brown color. Aroma of thin red wine, vinegar, soy sauce, plum, raisin. Dark fruits in the taste up front as well, dry sourness mostly in the middle, vinous tannin flavors in the aftertaste. Even reminiscent of dry, tart cola once it warms up. Quite a nice, complex sipper.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2018 Classic Oud Bruin, one of my favourites. Easy available to me for a low price. This particular bottle was unfortunately left in the freezer last night. It survived, but the bottle cap got a bit loosened. It lost most of the carbonation, but is still enjoyable. The taste is dominated by prunes, balsamic vinegar, wood, caramel and a slightly roasted woody-coffee-like aftertaste. A bit like cold gløgg with red wine without the excessive sugars. I've drunk around 40 bottles of this and just bought a six pack. The beer is not spectacular, but since it's easily available for me it's one of the beers I've had most memorial moments with, pairing it with cheeses, meats or by it self. I think I had å successful pairing with oven baked salmon as well. Great example of the style.

Bijzonder donker bier van Liefmans. Spontane gisting, dus een aangenaam zuur van appel en champagne. Daarnaast een gistige smaak en tonen van karamel, aalbes, boterbabbelaar. Tevens een complex aroma.

330ml bottle from Chez Sophie. Pours a deep, dark brown, small pale tan head. Aroma is a little leathery, ripened berry fruit. Taste presents smooth deep malt settling a ripened berry sweetness and tart sour funk. Hints of vinegar and chocolate. Not as shouty as some sours, yet still bearing a deep, unravelling complexity.

Bottle 750 ml (2016). Appearance: dark brown and hazy, looks like kvass. No real head, just lacing. Aroma: fruity, some sourness and caramel. Taste: raisin and plum. Brown sugar. Light sweetness, medium bitterness, medium to heavy sourness. Palate: medium to full body. Texture somewhat creamy. Soft carbonation. Dry and short finish. Overall: better than I expected, even though it appears to contain more alcohol than 8 %...

DraftDodger (1900) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JAN 18, 2018
Copenhagen 18/1 2018. 33 cl bottle from Øl-handleren in Hørning. Simple label with small golden lady enjoying a cup of Liefmans. Pours clear maroon with off-white head. Settles as thin creamy layer of foam. Lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma has a little fruity sweetness which is soon overcome by strong sourness. Citrus, lemon, unripe sour berries. Acidic with a touch of sugar. Medium carbonation and water palate. Flavor is not as sour as I expected. Medium sweetness followed by strong sharp sourness. Aftertaste is sour and finish dry. Like a dry, creaky white wine - with a slightly sweet, more forgiving streak. Very nice middle of the road Sour Brown.
