Infinitely complex in aroma and flavor with notes of maltiness and tartness throughout. An unsurpassed old brown with the richness and complexity of a vintage wine.

Appearance: dark reddish brown, small off-white head. Great complex aroma, fruity sourness, apple and plums, but also some caramel and quite some vanilla. Nice woody aftertaste, and a bit funky, but not too much. Taste seems not as full as a few years ago. My favourite beer, Im very happy I can buy it close by. Once openend one after keeping it a year, and it was even better - maybe Ill do another rating of that later.

375ml cork and cage bottle wrapped in blue paper. As Liefmans Goudenband, 8%, 2014 vintage. Consumed at home watching the rare event of Wales beating South Africa. Murky purple brown, opaque, ring of beige head. Aroma is dry sherry and vinegar, dried blueberries and dark sugars. Body is smooth, soft carbonation, rounded. Taste is mostly sherry, tangy apple and cherry tomato, touches of vinegar, seems oaky (though Im not sure whether its oak aged). A pretty unique beer.

Havent had this since Im on ratebeer it seems. 37.5 cL bottle at home, about 3 years old. Pours hazy brown/reddish with a small off-white head. Aroma has qtuie some wood, caramel, bit of dark fruits, hint of lactic acid. sweetness. Taste is quite sweet, wood, little bit of tartness, dark fruits, vinous. Medium body and carbo. Really liked this when I started drinking beer, but a bit too sweet for my liking now.

041116. This is a good Friday night beer, especially if you dont have to drive anywhere too early on Saturday morning. Looks and smells a touch "porty" with a shimmery brownish red colour. A fine trail of foam tracks across the surface of this beer before it slowly disappears. Not overly tart or sour but a good level that doesnt make you regret opening the bottle. Another purchase from Greenslopes Cellars.

Light brown pour with thin tan foam. Sour citrus-like aroma underlaid with toasty malt. Taste is light sour, but this dissapates to a malty edge that lingers. Hops not particularly noticeable, but a low level of earthy bitterness is present as well. Quite complex flavour. Carbonation medium, as well as the mouthfeel. Finishes clean and dry with that lingering dark malt hint.
