Copper color with just a hint of ruby. Small thin head of khaki colored bubbles. Dark brown sugar and heavily toasted malt scents, some licorice and toasted hazelnuts as well. Flavors are rather dry, with some earthy malt and darker toasted grain. Rather acidic in the finish and linger. 2/11

commonmac (1093) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 1, 2015
Bottle at Parlour with commomshawn before Punch Brothers at First Ave. Brown in color with minimal head. Aroma is malty with a little sweetness. Actually does remind me a bit of nuts. Taste is pretty thin. Mostly malty with roasted presence. Slight syrupy bitterness especially at the end. Sweetness in the aroma disappears during the sip. Not terrible but not worth seeking out either. Nat King Cole would find another option.

Very dark brown color. Smells and tastes like roasted nuts with a little bit of chocolate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle, purchased from Brennans in Madison during GTMW. Pours a half hazy brown red color, with a good finger-thick khaki head. Fades to a thin amount, and leaves good ridges of lace. Nutty, cocoa, chocolate, and coffee notes up front. Medium plus body. Smooth, creamy texture, good full mouthfeel. Lighter, creamy carbonation. Light slick finish. Kind of a chewy texture, pretty nice. Moderate sweet taste, lighter bitterness. Bottle says this brewed with cinnamon and nutmeg but I get a lot less of that than expected, its very subtle... Whats big in the flavor is not mentioned on the bottle, the nice big nuttiness. Some cinnamon, butterscotch comes out later. Great brown ale. A lot better than expected.

6 oz. pour, on tap at the brewerys taproom as part of a six-beer flight. Consumed on 5-30-14. Pours a light to medium brown with an orange hue and beige head. Produces good lacing. Fall spices dominate the aroma. Brazil nut and pumpkin scents. Fresh smell. The aroma is not at all what I expected. Flavors of chocolate, hazelnut, and pumpkin spice. Also mocha (but more chocolate than coffee) and pumpernickel bread. Plummy finish. More aromatic, flavorful, and complex than I expected or is typical for the style. Light to medium body. Aqueous and lively in the palate. Overall, not bad at all, and something different for what is typically a boring style.
