650 ml bottle. Pours a reddish dark brown with light persistent head. Aromas of wood, roasted malt and dark fruit. Flavors of chocolate, coffee beans, vanilla, and plums. Smooth and warm with a light bitter finish. A great beer. CapFlu (5132) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 20, 2012
(65ml bottle) Purchased at Liquor Plus Douglas in Victoria for $7.99. Pours a lasting thin beige head atop an opaque body. Heavily spiced coriander, cognac, chocolate, peaches and vanilla. Fantastic mouthfeel of sour Porter melded with a Belgian Strong. Good hop front and silky yeasty finish. Very exciting concoction.

Love the bottle, frosted dark glass with a striking skull pirate motif. Pours a stout like jet black with mocha head that lasts reasonably well. Aroma is molasses, sharp hops, mild yeast and dark fruit. Some licorice in there too. Taste is lovely and complex. Great malt notes, slightly bready, with a powerful PNW hop bite. Cherry is there along with plum and mild licorice. Alcohol is really well hidden, not hot at all. Finish is a carefully struck balance between the lightly roasted malt and the sharp hops. If anything this beer only lacks in the Belgian yeast component. Having said that there’s a truly wonderful middle ground struck here between a Belgian strong and an imperial black IPA. Solid beer all round and certainly the best Lighthouse have produced so far. andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - MAY 18, 2013
Pours a very dark black with a little light coming through and big initial tan head that settles into a thin covering. Aroma is roasted malts, dark dried fruits, a residual sweetness and some cocoa. Flavour is fruity, cocoa, roasted malts, residual sweetness, and a touch of alcohol. Really tasty beer. WheatKing (1338) - Phnom Penh, CAMBODIA - AUG 9, 2012
Looks... like a Belgian Black. Most important here is that it’s not a Belgian Strong like Chimay or Trois Pistoles -- those dark fruit and spice flavours do exist, but they are somewhat diluted. What’s in its place is wonderful though, the taste and viscosity of a thick porter, with some coffee and chocolate roast. Mild alcohol kicks in on the finish. Great beer, one of the best from BC.

Bottle, shared with Smitty. Very dark brown, approaching black, with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, with elements of dark fruits, roast, and coffee. The palate walks a line between sweet and roasty, with equal elements of figs, plums, and dark sugar sharing the stage with burnt malts, coffee, and licorice. There is some ill defined spiciness in here too that is very intriguing. Just so good! RumRunner101 (918) - Alberta, CANADA - JAN 21, 2012
Pours black - like expected - with a lasting almond-coloured head. Aroma is very reminiscent of a stout - roasted malts and black coffee with a touch of vanilla and a hit of alcohol. Palate is smooth with lively carbonation. Body has flavours that mix between a stout and a Belgian ale - dark fruits, cocoa, molasses. Finish is slightly spiced, bitter, with a distinct yeasty note. Very well balanced and well done. HenryXXX (238) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 26, 2012
Pours an oily black. Little to no head on the pour. The nose has a bit of coffee, vanilla, molases, and cinnamon. It has a medium weight. The pallet starts with stone fruit and moves to a molasses, burnt sugar, and vanilla. It finishes with a bitter coffee flavor with a light spiced lingering. This beers is like if a begium beer and a stout had a love child. gramity (1684) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 19, 2013
Aroma of belgian yeasts and dark fruit (plum, cherry). Sweet and malty, with imperial stout type flavours, balanced with belgian yeast and a smooth mouthfeel.
