3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Faint hop and citrus aroma. Copper/orange in color with a thin foam rim. Fair bitterness with some bready/biscuit malt backbone. Slight caramel and alcohol burn on the finish. Overall, nothing special. Just a standard IPA. I’d give this a B- rating.
November 29th, 2014 - Doublestrike was our first hoppy Lightning sampler of the day, coming off of a dusty dunkelweizen. But my palate wasn’t too tired to enjoy this beer. A fairly standard dark gold in color, the head quickly disappeared under the wilting confines of the tiny tulip they serve the 3 oz. pours in. The nose is definitely hoppy, with dank, weedy notes like flotsam floating in a sea of pineapple juice. If the aroma was strong, the flavor was stronger, crashing into the tongue with a defiant push of sugar. When that first hit clears it leaves behind orange and marijuana notes, bolstered by a mouthfeel that’s up to the tall task of supporting these flavors. The intensity is maybe just a little too much, but this is San Diego - hoppy territory filled with hoppy partisans. Marheb (5898) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 30, 2015

Draft at the brewery. Pours opaque orange copper with a bubbly off white head. Tastes like hop resin, sweet grapefruit, dry pine, smooth caramel, and booze. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like hop resin, caramel, citrus, and woody malt. jandd1983 (4442) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - OCT 27, 2014
On tap at the brewery. It poured a copper color with a tan head. The aroma was of orange, grapefruit and some pine. The taste was of bitter hops with grapefruit, lemon, lime and some pine. Very nice IPA. slowrunner77 (12451) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 24, 2014
"(cask) comes off as an average in every way iipa. restrained, well balanced. id like for the hops, and especially the aroma, to be a little more assertive in the doubles. nice fruity, citrus thing going on, just a little tame."

>> Clear amber orange pour, weak foam. Nose is sticky, nutty, stanky old fruit. Taste is harsh, salty, nutty, extremely papery. Some mango, big paper. No thanks.
22oz bottle. Pours a hazy orange brown with a white head. Very bitter, grassy, resin, pine. Mediocre.

Orange and cloudy pour from 22oz bottle. Very fruity and bitter. Floral hoppy and grassy notes. Smooth. Haven't heard of the brewery but would like to try more their beer valleyann83 (16) - California, USA - AUG 29, 2013
Very clear orange, yellow, no real hop aroma, fair body, just bitter...that’s it just bitter.
