On tap at the brewery. It poured a cloudy orange color with a white head. The aroma was of banana, some bread with a touch of light spice. The taste was similar to the aroma with some bread, malts, fruit and sweetness. Tasty. GarrettB (1637) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 2, 2014
June 3rd, 2012 - Thunderweizens are my favorite summer beer. They’re consistently deep with flavor, and have a nice chewiness without making me or my palate sluggish or drunk. Lightning’s version of the Hefeweizen - the Thunderweizen - has come recommended by many. It’s a light and golden beer with that unfiltered fogginess in the body, and a head that plumps up after the pour, and thins out quickly. The aroma is dominated by bananas, and goes easy on the clove that often appears in the style. Where the aroma is subtle the carbonation is rough and powerful, popping and fizzing all the way through the aftertaste like a Pop-Rock. The flavor is decent, but comes off as a little flat when paired with such a rambunctious mouthfeel - a wheat layer and a nice bread savoriness, and some sweet roasted butternut squash in the aftertaste, but flavors too meek to stand up to an active texture. Cloudy yellow color, pretty much flat. Aroma of sour orange, banana. Taste is intense banana esters, clove. mkel07 (6250) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - AUG 10, 2014
Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique February 2014. Banana and cloves in the aroma and a huge white head sirs proudly. Refreshing and clean in the mouth. GT (10002) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 22, 2014

>> Cloudy straw pour, good foam. Extreme estery nose with yellow apple. Pretty spot on. Taste is bright, juicy, big yellow apple. Good palate. One of their better beers.
Tap, gold pour, white head, nose is banana, taste is citrus, average hefe here. Stuedmaster (352) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 1, 2014
A very nice local version of a German Hefeweizen. Pours rich, cloudy gold with a nice white head, no lacing. Aroma of banana, clove, citrus, and wheat. Delicious, rich taste, medium sweet and light sour. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, and sweet/sour finish. A real winner, would repeat. I didn’t know they made such good beer in Poway. jjh19 (63) - California, USA - APR 7, 2014
Appearance: Golden orange with a decent head.
Smell: I got subtle citrus in the smell.
Taste: My first taste was quite sharp. I didn’t really get as much lemon or orange as I would have thought from the aroma.
Mouthfeel: Too much bite. A smoother hef where the flavors find balance is more to my liking. Perhaps not an ideal bottle of Thunderweizen?
Drinkability: Okay, I guess. Not a favorite. BrewBoxer (2657) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 9, 2013
Draft at the stone resto on the airport. Pours a bright yellow mustard coal or with a fluffy heS. Almost an orange taste with a bready taste. Decent taste with a nice drink ability for the weather

Bottle. Hazy gold with a modest white head for a hefe. Wheaty bread aroma with lemon, peach, more vanilla than banana, cloves. Lovely creamy texture. Bready, sweet and fruity with a distinct tanginess and (maybe slightly over-) prominent cloves. Not all that much banana, which is very much to my taste. Rustic and refreshing.
