In December 1990 was born a superbly shimmering red: a sparkling English Lady. Since this beer is so balanced, the master brewer claimed: « My goodness, this is not a two of spades! » We then decided to name it the « Three of Spades » for it had been created during our 3rd anniversary. Brewed with the purest tradition from malted barley, this red is dominated by caramel malt. It is subtly hopped in order to bring out all of its richness; a real pleasure to taste.

Draught at brewpub. this one poured a clear copper color. There was no head on it. Lighter aroma: faint malts and roastiness. The taste is pretty good. A fair amount of roastiness, malts and some biscuit notes.

on tap at brewpub. clear dark golden- light brown with a decent light beige head, little retention. caramel malts, semi-sweet, decent amount of light roastiness, nuttyness, decent herbalness. aggressive carbonation, light body, short and present grassy finish, hint of metal though.

Tap at the brewery. Nice one. Aromas of caramel and flowers. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes. Palate is velvety, with a thin-to-medium body. Amber, with a head that disappears.

On tap at L’Inox. Pours reddy brown in colour, with minimal white head. Aroma and taste were sweet caramel malt, slight hop.

(Rating #2613)

Draught at ’Linox’, Quebec City. Dunkler Bock? It was called an ESB there!? Weird. Pours a clear amber-brown with an average size diminishing white head. Very mild aroma of caramel malt, a bit toasty perhaps, and some fruit. Watery flavour of fruity malt and maybe some hops in the finish -- this needs much more flavour. Quite dull, especially for the style.

Tap at the brewpub. As mentioned by others a definitive chemical aroma. Somewhat of citrus, lemon or grapefruit taste. Not a bad beer but not my style.
