4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
This beer is awesome. Others have profiled it nicely, so I’ll just say that this is an extremely tasty stout that totally covers its high gravity. The only real complaint I have is that it feels a little thin for a stout. Well done.
From Mar 2007
Pours from 625ml bottle(room temp) a pitch black with a pretty large head of foam that shrinks slowly and then completely dissipates. There's some lacing present with each new pour but that too disappears after sitting in the glass for a while.
The smell is of roasted malt but it's pretty light. Not much going on for me as far as the nose goes.
The taste has coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and...right near the finish, a hot cocoa flavour but they are all on the light side and make for a very smooth brew overall; I can't believe it's 8%abv, it's *that* smooth and easy drinking but I know better than to think that the alcohol won't catch up to me so I'm only taking small sips.
Further sips and and nothing really changes. I note that the body on this one is on the thin side though the taste never does lean towards the watery side. It's good. I'm glad I got to try it but...it's not something I'd seek out again. Sircatis (320) - FRANCE - AUG 30, 2017

625ml bottle at home. Dark nearly black pour with a thin tan head. Lots of dark, roasted aromas. Flavors are roasted malt, smoky dark chocolate, burnt sugar, molasses, caramel sweetness. Nice full body, lingering, heavy roast finish. Confess I was not expecting this - top notch, excellent stout. Kronhjort1996 (57) - Århus C, DENMARK - AUG 25, 2017

33cl bottle at home. Appearance: black with medium beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, chocolate, toffee and caramel, hint of vanilla and a trace of sawdust in the back. Taste: pretty high sweetness and medium bitterness. Notes of coffee, toffee, caramel, chocolate, trace of cinnamon and sweet spices, subtle roastiness. Palate: medium bodied, oily texture and lively carbonation. The aroma, as well as the taste, is very rich but the mouthfeel is a little on the weak side. Very pleasant!

Can. Pours black with large creamy beige head. Aroma is malty with dark chocolate. Somewhat sweet with chocolate presence, not particularly roasty. Smooth and creamy on the palate, medium bodied. Didn’t expect this to be so good. Gangstergafje (1228) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - JUL 17, 2017
17-07-2017; bottle; at home (bought at Saveur Bière, as part of their July discovery box).
The looks of the beer are perfect for a stout. It is the way I like to see my beer. The beer is pitch black on the eye. Strong light reveals a nice ruby red glow. It seems quite clear. The beer is very dark, lovely. On top of the beer a little amount of almond coloured foam is formed. Not a lot of foam, but that is no problem.
The smell of the beer is quite nice. I smell some lovely malts. There are aroma’s of chocolate, some hints of rather sweet red fruits, hint of plum, slight touch of coffee and some nice hints of hops. It is quite nice. It gets more aromatic over time, as the beer warms a little. Nicely done.
The taste of the beer is also nice. There is a lovely malt flavour, containing some chocolate, vanilla, a red fruit touch and something that reminds me of bourbon barrel, with some sweet bourbon flavours and a slightly sour oak flavour. Lovely. There is a nice bitter touch of hops. The chocolate and malts give nice bittersweet, with some additional sweets of the bourbon touch and a nice bitter hop twist. Balance is great.
The palate of the beer is nice to. The beer has a full body a slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is medium, but for a stout quite high. The finish of the beer is nice. There is a nice almondy alcohol flavour, some nice chocolate malts and a bitter hop twist. All in all, a great Foreign Stout. I like the fact that my first Sri Lankan beer is a stout, my favourite type. A pity that when I visited Sri Lanka several years ago I wasn’t allowed to drink yet. loscovar (655) - Trieste, ITALY, Villeneuvette, FRANCE - JUL 5, 2017
