5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
A vigorous aroma of chocolate, vanilla, cherry, coffee and roasted malt. Poured pitch black with a huge creamy, long lasting tan head. Left a lot of lacing.
Flavor of Sweet Milk Chocolate, Sweet Cherry, light touch of vanilla, strong black coffee, bitter black chocolate, with a hint of smoke and roasted malt. Excellent flavor! Full body, a thick, creamy, yet chewy texture. A bit above average carbonation. A pleasant, short, sharp finish. A excellent stout! I served this in a pint at 45 degrees. This has it all in a stout. If you like them thick, sweet and yet bitter, black and rich this is the stout for you! I am very impressed with this stout and this definitely gets added to my favorite rotation. THe only problem I could see with this brew is that one is enough, but is that a problem? :)
17-07-2017; bottle; at home (bought at Saveur Bière, as part of their July discovery box).
The looks of the beer are perfect for a stout. It is the way I like to see my beer. The beer is pitch black on the eye. Strong light reveals a nice ruby red glow. It seems quite clear. The beer is very dark, lovely. On top of the beer a little amount of almond coloured foam is formed. Not a lot of foam, but that is no problem.
The smell of the beer is quite nice. I smell some lovely malts. There are aroma’s of chocolate, some hints of rather sweet red fruits, hint of plum, slight touch of coffee and some nice hints of hops. It is quite nice. It gets more aromatic over time, as the beer warms a little. Nicely done.
The taste of the beer is also nice. There is a lovely malt flavour, containing some chocolate, vanilla, a red fruit touch and something that reminds me of bourbon barrel, with some sweet bourbon flavours and a slightly sour oak flavour. Lovely. There is a nice bitter touch of hops. The chocolate and malts give nice bittersweet, with some additional sweets of the bourbon touch and a nice bitter hop twist. Balance is great.
The palate of the beer is nice to. The beer has a full body a slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is medium, but for a stout quite high. The finish of the beer is nice. There is a nice almondy alcohol flavour, some nice chocolate malts and a bitter hop twist. All in all, a great Foreign Stout. I like the fact that my first Sri Lankan beer is a stout, my favourite type. A pity that when I visited Sri Lanka several years ago I wasn’t allowed to drink yet. loscovar (249) - Villeneuvette, FRANCE - JUL 5, 2017

Lion Brewery (Sri Lanka) - Stout
Beerandhockey8 (403) - Three Forks, Montana, USA - JUN 25, 2017

0.33 l bottle from ’Bier & Beer’, best before December 2018. Black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, just slightly roasty and a bit fruity aroma of dark chocolate, raisins, prunes and mocca. Rather sweet, malty, slightly roasty and a bit fruity taste of dark chocolate, mocca, praline, hazelnut, raisins and prunes, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly earthy-dry finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Almost a bit thin for that abv, but all in all worth its merits, a true classic. jjsint (3089) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - JUN 8, 2017
Bottle from Beers of Europe, drunk at home. Dark purplish black with a small foamy tan head. Blackberry and raw sugarcane in the aroma. Sweet, sweet taste with malts that are roasted to hell and back but never tastes burned. Smoky chocolate and plum swirls around in my mouth. Long finish with a silky mouthfeel. Tobacco and slivovitz in the aftertaste. Wow. ANZUShophunter (446) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUN 7, 2017
