ekstedt (6976) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 19, 2012
Bottle (33 cl) from a (non-RB) friend. Hazy mahogny, medium beige head. Nutty and fruity malt aroma with some roasted chocolate notes and herbal hops. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation. Semi dry, medium bitterness.

Bottled (from Bierzwerg.de, as Thomansen Export Dunkel, best before was about a year ago...). Deep murky brown colour with a mediumsized beige head that leaves nice lace. Aroma is roasted malts, mild coffee, some caramel and mild toffee. Also mildly ashy notes. Flavour is richly roasted old coffee with some caramel, mild toast and toffee as well. Quite a strange "Dunkel" compared to other German dunkels. But yet a rather pleasant brew.

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!

Ibrew2or3 (8814) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - NOV 2, 2011
33cl bottle pours a deep clear copper with gold edges and off white head. The aroma is full with Christmas fruit cake, black licorice and honey laced dark roasted coffee. The taste has the honey or molasses sweetened dark roasted coffee mingling with some spicy black licorice and dark roasted malts. To midway a fairly assertive spicy hop component joins in and helps take this to the finish.

Kristall-König (2820) - Oldenburg, GERMANY - AUG 9, 2011
Geruch süßlich-malzig, Kaffee. Etwas flüchtiger Antrunk, dann schnell malziger werdend und hopfenaromatisch untermalt. Malziger Ausklang. Gut solide. Test vom 14.4.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche

At Papsoe’s pre CPH Beer Fest tasting, cheers Henrik! Bottle courtesy of Fonefan. Cheers Jan! Clear red - brown beer. Rich, almost porty, malt. Definite dark toffee. Tasty!

TBone (18220) - Pori, FINLAND - AUG 26, 2010
Bottled 0,33 ltr "Thomhansen Export Dunkel" (BZ, BB 04/2011)
Dark chestnut brown color, steady small beige head, some lace. Sticky coffeeish aroma, roasted coffee beans. Soft palate. Coffeish and milky flavor with some toffee and peanut butter. Harsh, coffeish-bitter finish. Lingering dark chocolate in the aftertaste. Very unconventional German dunkel.

3.3
Papsoe (25056) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 25, 2009
Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Clear pale brown with a small and creamy off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt. Medium body, hard roasted malt and a good dry hopping with some bitterness. A very good, dry Dunkel. 140509

Bottle 33cl. @ home.
Clear medium red brown color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, bread, roasted, caramel, chocolate notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy chocolate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. [20090519]
