UPDATED: JUN 17, 2008 4 oz taster at the brewpub. Pour is all black with a well formed and retentive tan nitro head. Aroma of slightly sour malt and some coffee roast. Taste is coffee roastiness, some mild vanilla sweetness and milkiness. Palate seems a bit flat, that’s probably the nitro. This was decent, though. unclemike (3165) - Junction City Kansas, Kansas, USA - FEB 16, 2008
Poured from the tap, smelled had a fine coffee aroma, dark with a tan head loved it, one of the best stouts i have ever tasted. Great taste no aftertaste, I simply LOVED it. topherh (1929) - Kearney, Missouri, USA - JAN 30, 2008
Pint on tap at the brew pub. Pours a dark black/brown with a thick beige head from a nitro pour. Aroma of coffee, smoke, and toast. Flavor is of toasted grain, coffee, and a hint of vanilla. A nice smooth mouthfeel due to the nitro pour. JustinBennett (67) - junction city, Kansas, USA - DEC 20, 2007

Pours intense, opaque, light-blocking brown-black. Persistent tan head, dense from nitrogenation, is whisker-thin but leaves an impressive amount of lace on the sides fo the glass. Aroma reveals a big chocolate nose, also plenty of roasted grain, a dose of vanilla and a hint of maple. Flavor is a huge burst of chocolate, vanilla, crunchy sweetness as if this were an oatmeal stout, and a piney hop bitterness that hangs in the background. No gritty carbon/charcoal flavor. Palate is clunky, flat and dead on account of insufficient nitrogenation. Ironically, this would probably have been better on standard carbonated draft. Tastes great; nitro-infusion needs work.
I have to say this was a pretty tasty stout. Strong roasted coffee aroma, with some chicory, and perhaps a bit of licorice. Just bitter enough and not overly dry on the palate, with some nice coffee and chocolate flavors. glennconnot (7) - Fort Knox, Kentucky, USA - FEB 1, 2006 does not count
Excellent palate and smokey flavor. Flavor could use some refinement though an excellent brewpub beer. Very nice heemer77 (5360) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JAN 4, 2006
I purchased a growler of this for a tasting at csbosox house. This poured black with a thin white head. The aroma was chocolate and coffee with some grass. The taste was toasted coffee with some anise. This was watery with a paper like finish. Some potential, but they need to take it off nitro.
