Appearance: Pours a dark red color with a beige head and some plus lace on the glass
Flavor: The taste is malty and leans sweet, toffee stands out the most of the components
Palate: This one has a medium-full body, with a sticky and smooth feel
Hay Merchant still has a couple of pretty cool things left over from their Anniversary Party, and this was one of them. I liked this one.
This is pretty darned good for such a young version of this. It’s sweet and mostly old ale-ish in both nose and aroma. It’s nutty, sweet, alcoholic, a perfect old ale. It fills your palate, nose, dreams, quite perfectly. It’s really impressive for being so young and assumedly underdeveloped. brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - JUN 16, 2013
Copper colored pour with an off-white head. Hop forward nose with grapefruit, orange, and pine. Nice fruitiness of dates and golden raisins. Caramel, brown sugar, and toffee. Light booze on the palate. Golden raisin tartness, dates, grapefruit, and orange zest. Pine bitterness, sweet caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Wordsworth (147) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 20, 2013
Draft pour at Whip In. Pours a reddish amber with a thin white head that dissipates. No lacing. Pour is cold and hard to smell. Flavors are a sweetness maybe licorice, hevy booze, and a nice balance of hops bitterness with malt. Solid beer but too strong to drink regularly. djd07 (14564) - Houston, Texas, USA - JAN 16, 2013
On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a clear amber with small frothy off white head. The aroma is a strong vanilla and caramel malt. Medium moutjfeel with a sweet vanilla malt and brown sugar flavor with nice lingering sweet finish. Really enjoyed this one.

On tap at Strangeways. Murky brown pour with a lasting cream head. Aroma is candied fruits, caramel, molasses, and some alcohol. Taste is caramel, raisins and dates, some vanilla and wood. Alcohol is not too noticeable in the taste but warms on the way down. Very good. BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - APR 30, 2012
On tap at Strangeways. Pours with a hazed deep bronze body with a massive tan head that leaves great lace. Aromas are of burnt caramel, canned pineapple, creme brulee, caramel, flan, medium esters, lots of booze. Some fusel alcohols. Flavors are quite bitter, some faded hop character, burn caramel, alcohol, toffee, flan, raisins. Really deep caramel and caramelization notes. BIG. Deeply warming, medium to creamy carbonation....REALLY BIG.
