Sample at Hay Merchant. Opaque brown-black pour with a medium light tan head that recedes steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt and hops. Light-bodied with a roasty character and flavors of bready malt, chocolate and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a roasted malt aftertaste. Decent overall. Nose is dark malt, dark toffee, biscuit, dark fruits.
Taste follows, sugars, dark malt, toffee.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dryish execution.

Tap flight at Flying Saucer San Antonio. Brown pour that you can see through. No detectable nose. Flavor is roasty with a sweet syrupy characteristic and bitter finish in the back of the mouth while remaining sweet in the to the in front. Impressive slippery and creamy mouthfeel. Surprise. On tap. Pours dark brown/black with tan head. Aroma of light dark grain, faint hint of chocolate with hints of earthy hop. Flavor is much the same but unlike the description, the hop stands out more then other schwartzbiers I have had, but just a tad. Light-medium body with medium-high carbonation. Overall, I would have a second one!

The beer pours a black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of roasted malt, as well as some very light smoke and some light chocolate. The flavor is similar.
