Bottle from the Homebrew Bottle Shop, Oxton in Birkenhead. This one is 7.4. Appearance - opaque black and a decent thin head. Nose - toffee and molasses. Dry smoky. Taste - toffee, toffee, toffee! Palate - medium bodied plus. Creamy and sweet. Similar finish. Overall - not really all I would like in an Imperial stout.

Porter. Cream coloured foamy head. Plums, liquorice, coffee bean, dark chocolate, black cherry. A real blast of flavour.

500ml bottle picked up in Crosby, drank at home in Richmond as ’Liverpool Organic Imperial Russian Stout’, 7.5%, BB Dec 2016. Black, opaque with a big foamy dense brown head, leaving thick lacing. Aroma reminds me of being in clubs as a teenager - sort of like Red Bull soaked into a well-trodden carpet, spicy Aftershock shots. I would say it’s nostalgic, but that’s not true. Body is quite light, smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is thin sugary malt, tangy red berry and booze that suggests it’s stronger than it is, some resin. It’s not bad really - it’s just one of those sweet old school malty stouts that will hopefully soon be superseded by the new wave. Malty, a bit spicy, molasses, some booze, not enough bitterness. It grew on me and it’s very drinkable for the ABV in fairness.

Cask at the Peterborough beer festival 27/08/2016. A dark mahogany brown coloured pour with a halo of loose light tan head. Aroma is woody, rum barrel, mellow roasted malts, . Palate is smooth and oily, medium sweet, moderate carbonation, . Flavour is composed of booze woody rum, jammy fruits. Faint choc powder I the finish.

Butelka 500ml. Czarne o szczatkowej brazowej pianie. Aromat kawy czekolady lukrecji i palonych cukrow. W smaku podobnie . Kawa i czekolada. Alkohol w tle nie przeszkadza. Po glebszym zastanowieniu stwierdzam ze w glebi wyczuc mozna lekki zapach kuwety lub moczu. Ogolnie ok ale wrazenie zapachowe psuje powyzsze.

[Waterloo Beer Festival, Liverpool, 2014] - Liverpool Organic Brewery Imperial Russian Stout, 7.4%, markantes Schoko-Kaffee Aroma.

minutemat (6209) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 22, 2015
500ml bottle from Appleyards, Shrewsbury. Pours black with thin tan head. Roasted malts and liquorice aroma, taste is a little weak but still producing a commendably flavoursome blend of sweet dark fruits, light coffee and liquorice.
