2009/2010 batch (#2) is a Belgian Quadrupel aged in a Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout cask for 20 months by it’s re-release in 2010. During this time some wild yeast development as also occured. A younger version was limited release in 2009 and at that point had not developed any wild yeast tones. 2008 Batch #1 were aged various lengths (8 to 18 months) in a 5th use bourbon barrel and then dry-hopped with English Fuggles hop. The initial Livery batch 99 was brewed for release in celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the brewery in 2007.

BPW #82 On tap at the Livery. The aromas and nose are a rich barrel tone with some sweet dark fruit flavors such as dates and raisins. This beer could use some time to mellow out but still a tasty beer.

copper color, small tan head, somewhat lacy. dried fruit nose, floral hops. caramel and earthiness in the taste, with a trace of wood and alcohol. full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, sweet finish. nice wood in the flavor, with traces of alcohol. quite nice. on tap at the livery.

Hand bottle courtesy of BBB63 via tjthresh; enjoyed at csbosox’s tasting on 3/7/08. Pours a hazy orange with a thin, white head and decent legs. The aroma is a beautiful blend of slightly overripe apples, oak, and a touch of spicy hops. Medium bodied and oily with a dry finish. The flavor drops off quite a bit from the nose: fermented apple juice and alcohol dominate with some oak in support. This one began with great promise but steadily declined from there. If this is a quad it is unlike any other that I’ve sampled. Thanks again for giving us a chance to try this one, Mike.

22 oz hand bottleb by BB63 and shared by tjthresh @ a March ’08 tasting. Aroma is super boozy and reminiscent of calvados. Taste is boozy applejack, hot and harsh, and lacking of a good malt base. Maybe some age would have helped this out?

Tap at MBGSF 08. Pours a hazy, rusty color with a thin tan colored head. Aroma is oak, citrus, light bourbon. Flavor is caramel, grapefruit, oak, yeast, vanilla, brown sugar. Palate is full to medium bodied, mild carbonation, finished bitter with a hint of malt sweetness. Greta use of barrel aging. Flavor improved as it warmed. Rock solid all around.

Tap at the ’08 MBG Summerfest. Hazy copper brown pour. Vanilla, oak, subtle bourbon, banana, orange and dark fruit. Medium-full body with lots of carbonation.

Courtesy of BBB63. Thank you, sir.

Caramel brown body with a small head, no retention and not much lacing....some swirly foam is all that’s left after a minute or so....nose is fairly hot, along with tropical fruits, dark esters, caramel malts and some floral hops....flavor seems a bit off and disjointed, all of the components aren’t meshing well....mouthfeel is light for the style as well, could use a bit more heft....medium length finish, fruits, some perfume/floral notes and dough....something somewhere just didn’t mesh with me on this beer, my least favorite of all the great offerings Mike brought us from this top notch brewery....

On tap at the MBG summer fest 08’. Poured a cloudy brown color. Nice big citrus on the nose as well as some yeast and oak. Flavor has big citrus notes as well, more oak and wood, with a nice doughy bready backbone to pull it all together. I don’t know what style this actually is, but it tasted like a barrel aged IPA that worked. I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Kind of surprised me. Well done.

Draft sample at the Michigan Brewers Guild Fall Fest. Poured an amber/brown with thin tan head. Aroma of slight bourbon and wood, sweet bready malt, and dark fruits. Sweet and slight tartness from the wild yeast. Medium mouthfeel, light carbonation. Interesting and pretty good.
