22 oz hand bottle shared by tjthresh, courtesy of BBB63 - enjoyed at the csbosox tasting on 3/7/08. Pour is golden, with some ruby highlights - no head whatsoever. Aroma of green apples, very bright and fruity. Some heat behind that. Wood is present, though certainly in the backseat behind the apples. I am assuming this was Brandy barrel? Taste is a fair amount of heat, with sourish apple and almost a Trippel body and finish to it. This was OK, but I thought the barrel was pretty overwhelming. Thanks to both Mike and Tom! Hand bottle courtesy of BBB63 via tjthresh; enjoyed at csbosox’s tasting on 3/7/08. Pours a hazy orange with a thin, white head and decent legs. The aroma is a beautiful blend of slightly overripe apples, oak, and a touch of spicy hops. Medium bodied and oily with a dry finish. The flavor drops off quite a bit from the nose: fermented apple juice and alcohol dominate with some oak in support. This one began with great promise but steadily declined from there. If this is a quad it is unlike any other that I’ve sampled. Thanks again for giving us a chance to try this one, Mike. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - SEP 1, 2010
livery 5th anniv party in benton harbor, mi. pours an orangish brown with small head. aroma and flavor was a bizarre mess of too-much sugar, caramel, maple, and breads..finish begins with raisin and ends with slight citrus and bitter/dry hops mgumby10 (1856) - Jupiter, Florida, USA - MAR 15, 2008
Courtesy BBB63. Pours a clear amber copper color, with a small white head. Smells of a touch of bourbon, light caramel, fruits, and sweet malt. The flavor is more on the mild side, but nicely balanced for a barrel aged brew. The bourbon is soft, with the fruits and malts showing up more in the front and softening out in the finish. Very light to be called a quad in my opinion. Finished kind of tart. Decent, but not eye opening.

Caramel brown body with a small head, no retention and not much lacing....some swirly foam is all that’s left after a minute or so....nose is fairly hot, along with tropical fruits, dark esters, caramel malts and some floral hops....flavor seems a bit off and disjointed, all of the components aren’t meshing well....mouthfeel is light for the style as well, could use a bit more heft....medium length finish, fruits, some perfume/floral notes and dough....something somewhere just didn’t mesh with me on this beer, my least favorite of all the great offerings Mike brought us from this top notch brewery....
On tap at The Livery 5th anniversary party. Poured a slightly cloudy amber with a light brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was sweet with maple and sweet bread with a bit of funk and light fruit underlying. Flavor was sweet grain and got a bit darker with some fruit and a slightly bitter finish. Seemed a bit unbalanced to me. tjthresh (1873) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - MAR 9, 2008
22 ounce hand bottle from Mike. Clear amber with a thin a thin dirty white swirl on top. Apples, solvant, and saw dust. Solvanty/cleaner flavors as well as cidery. Very thin. Ehh. shp555 (2024) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAR 22, 2008
Pours a clear copper color with a tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, green apple, and some alcohol. Flavor is malty, caramel, green apple, oak, vanilla and a light toasty alcohol finish. Indra (2711) - Suburbia, Kansas, USA - MAR 9, 2008
Hand bottle by way of tjthresh and BBB63. Thanks! Sugary, doughy, sweet malt aroma, full of spice and fiery alcohol, also notes of calvados barrel(?). Some baking cinnamon rolls and green apple notes. Clear medium golden amber color, head is spotty and slight. Flavor is packed with turbinado sugar, green apple fruitiness, wood and rather intense alcohol, peppery and medicinal, tangy and hot with plenty of warmth and a touch of spicy bitterness. Smooth and lightly acidic on the palate, body is certainly huge. A bit harsh for my taste.
