On draft at wurst bar in Ypsilanti, very slightly hazy amber. Big hop
Aroma. Moderate mouthfeel, get the rye in the back ground. Huge, I mean huge, lingering bitterness. Big beer. As it warms up more if the rye comes out to make it more balanced beer. Draft at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Hazy, dirty medium orange-brown body, thick puffy cream head. Spicy, grassy nose with some Belgianesque esters. On tap at HopCat. Dusty copper pour with a thick khaki head of foam that left a ton intricate lace. Nose of rye spice, lighter citrus notes and some dough and caramel. On tap at The Livery. Pours copper with a nice head. Nose has some earthy character plus light spice and citrus. Earthy, citrusy hops. Rye in the background. A bit of zest and spice. Moderately bitter. Can’t detect the alcohol.

Draft. Deep amber body with a frothy, off-white head. Leafy hop aroma with notes of toasted grain and a hint of caramel. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. This beer is one dimensional and that’s bitter. In fact, the bitterness overpowers everything. A hint of malts before the bitterness takes over. Maybe that’s good, because the hint of malts is grainy and unclean. MBGSF 2011. Poured hazy copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex rye and hop aroma. Medium to full body and a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bitter flavor with a medium to heavy bitter finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a drinkable complex beer.

Sampled from the tap at the 2010 GTMW. Poured a cloudy pale amber with a thick near white head that dissipated slowly. Aroma was full of spruce and pine notes with a slight underlying cereal note and a hint of rye. Flavor was similar with a bit of sweet cereal in the start with a bit of rye but intense pine notes quickly take over and finish the beer. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy brown orange. Aroma of caramel malt. Flavor of lots of hops -- bitter hops, spicy hops, grassy hops and more caramel. It was the best beer on tap that I got to try (and one of the more popular ones too).

On tap at the Mug Club Solstice party: Coppery hue with a small frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of rye husks, herbal and fruity hops, minty, bready, and minerally. The taste has a nice sharp twangy hop and rye forefront with a caramel and bready backnote. Light peppery and clove tones as well. The mouth feel is lively and crisp, dry and astrengent finish. This is very good, I like it!
