[Cask @ Livery] Poured a brown amber color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked meats, burnt wood, oxidation, nuts, caramel malts, and light roast. Taste of more smoke, nuts, caramel, toast, some oxidation, and a bit of alcohol in the finish. RAYBOY01 (2010) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 14, 2009
Pours a rich brown with tan head. The nose is all about the malt bill...roasty caramel, vanilla, wood, alcohol, smoke. The flavors are equally malt-centric: roasted grain sweet caramel malt, peat smoke, bourbon, dark fruits, oak. Very impressive example of the style...tastes like a trip to the Orkney’s! tennisjoel (1508) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - AUG 20, 2008

Normally I am not a huge fan of cask ales, as I think the flavors can become somewhat muddled. However, this was a very pleasant suprise. Brown sugar, peat, molasses, and oak notes give this brew a very nice flavor and this works really well. A great introduction to the Livery, which at the fest surpassed all my expectations!
Growler-Thanks Tom! Tasted the week of ’06 GABF. Huge malty aroma, brown sugar, smoke, dark fruits, vanilla, smells great. Taste is brown sugar, smoke, dark fruits, vanilla, hints of oak and bourbon? All in all, this is a great Scotch ale and the barrel is well in the background. Nice body. Styles (2016) - Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA - DEC 13, 2007
MBG 7-21-06. Medium brown, beige head, great lacing, especially for plastic. Nice sweet malt and smoked peat aroma. Up front but mellow at the same time. Flavor on par, big caramel/toffee kick, fades to smoke through the middle mixed with some more residuel sugar. Finish dries out slightly form the woody character. Big luscious mouthfeel. Very nice overall.

GTM ’06. Interesting aroma. Sweet, high alcohol, maltish. Dark, cloudy reddish amber, with a thin, large bubble head. Smoke in the flavor (must be the peated barley). Not very impressed. Tmoney99 (15228) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 25, 2006
Draft at brewery. Poured dark reddish brown with a small fizzy off-white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Heavy roasted malt, smoke and woody aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture. Medium smoky sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of long duration. Ughsmash (7502) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 16, 2006
On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Poured an almost flat dirty caramel with only a dusting of swirly off-white as head. Sweet bourbon-accented nose with heavily-smoked peat and grainy notes. The flavor was even sweeter, which was rather well-balanced well by the smoky peat and some woody bitterness at the sides... caramel and other dark sugars in there. The lower carbonation worked well in this one, but it remained a bit too sweet for my tastes... flowed well. 1FastSTi (3358) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 13, 2006
Pours to a hazy brown body with a very large bubbly tan head. The aroma is sweet powdered sugar, nice peat malt. The flavor is sweet citrusy hops, light powdered sugar, peat. Nice palate, creamy, airy, delicate. MIBRomeo (2579) - Wisconsin, USA - AUG 13, 2006
cloudy deep crimson pour w/ a nice tan well laced head. Aroma of smoked wood, very peaty. Palate is well coated and a bit light. Flavor is like burnt peat from a fire heavily smoked peat over a sweet malt & a dry woody finish. Good stuff.
