Growler at DLD - Poured dark amber with a short tan head and some lace. Aromas of pine and floral hops. Flavor of grapefruit, pine, caramel, and some yeast. Finished fairly dry. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - FEB 16, 2006
English Dark IPA Sampled at the brewery in a pint glass: Rich dark coppery hue with a small but lasting frothy head and very good lace. The aroma has a combination of floral nocle hope and a little pine character. Additionally I discovered some apple, grapefruit, sea salt, and dusty esters. The taste is smooth earthy yeast with equal mild bitterness. A base of sweet malt is in the background along with a acidic fruit tone which dances around the edge of the palate. A mild chalky and lingering grassy aftertaste finishes it off. The feel is smooth and soft, moderately carbonated. Overall, a bit different from your standard classic IPA but a nice near session brew. A classic pint mixer with the dry stout.
