Draft sample at MBGF07. Poured hazy brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate balanced roasted malty and citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Medium bittersweet flavor with a light smooth sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.

(Draught) Pours a cloudy amber-brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, sour fruit, wheat, toasted grain, and grass. Flavor of sourness, rye bread, caramel, and mild hops (grass, floral, pine).

Pint at the brewery. Dark burgundy and ruby in color. Low, silky texture, almost watery. Flavor of wet cardboard and black cherry greets the palate, with some chewy malts and some resinous, syrupy but very thin body. I don’t get much of a Czech pils out of this one.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2009 Thanks to Mike for bringing the growler! Poured clear medium reddish-brown with a loose cap of white head. The aroma picked up toasty pils malts and caramel along with light, almost wheaty sour notes and sprucey hoppage.. overall soft and inviting. The flavor found toasty caramel and chocolate at the core with light floral and piney bitterness accenting the edges.. short, sweeter finish. Lighter-bodied on the palate with lower carbonation.. nice balance and very drinkable. Very good stuff! 7 3 7 4 13

On tap at FoBAB. Poured near-clear medium amber with a nice cap of tan head. The aroma picked up mostly maltage with toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted darker fruits represented. The flavor had sour fruit skins and brown sugar throughout with a caramelly base.. long-ish sour impression on the finish. Sour and medium-bodied on the palate with lower carbonation.. just OK for me.

Pours a very dark rusty brown with decent bright white head that dies to a film, clings and laces decent. Aromas are lightly sweet malt, a bit darker overall, faint hoppy presence. Initial mirrors this with a bit of honey sweetness, a bit watery, darker sugars, fainy fruity and light bitterness on the backend. This is a mellow darker beer, light yet flavorful$ a bit lacking in body. Ok.

On tap at brewery: Nice amber hue but little head. The aroma is caramel and toast, grassy and noble hops, and a touch of ripened fruit (currants?). The taste displays a major dose of Saaz hop character throughout with beautiful balance of malt. A clean and crisp dark continental lager for sure. Really done well, surprising.

Sampled during Cheesehead YeHA in Brookfield, Wisconsin and shared by BBB63 via growler. Pours a cloudy dark amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of toasted multi-grain and wheat malt, a touch of pine hops, and a touch of red berry character. Taste is light to medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of toasted caramel malt, some floral and pine hops and a touch of chocolate. Finish is slightly bitter, with aftertaste of light caramel malt and some piney hops. Very enjoyable.

On tap at The Livery. Pours a very dark amber color with a thin off white head that recedes quickly without leaving much of anything behind. The nose brings a pretty large amount of sweet malt and a touch of light roast. Some continental hops in the background. The flavor is too sweet and offers malt with a moderate hop balance. Too thick and almost chewy. The malt and hop balance is a bit out of whack. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Too thick a beer and not enough flavor. Not very impressed.
