The 2006 IBMA Emerging Artists Of The Year Award winning "Steep Canyon Rangers" are quickly becoming one of the hottest bands on the bluegrass festival and concert circuit. In Sept. of 2005, they became the first national bluegrass band to play in Benton Harbor at their first show at the Livery. Several shows later we have become good friends with these talented guys, and always look forward to when they return to our stage. Pilsener and Munich malts combine with a good dose of Noble hops for a flavorful and hoppy Pilsener beer.

Sampler at the brewpub. Hazy gold color. Again, some light sulfur character with lemon pledge hops. Not bad but not crisp at all. A bit of a husky malt character in the flavor. A bit more lemon pledge, metal, and sulfur in the aftertaste.

Pint at Dexters. Hazy yellow-orange, thin steady oily head. A little butter in the aroma lets you know how this is going to be a sub par lager. Tastes odd. Decent ingredients, more than average hoppitude, but the off sour buttery tones kill it. Really gets worse the more you sip. Amateur hour PIls, wast of money. Noble hop overload cant rescue it from the putrid, rancid tones.

A bit too fruity with some ale qualities. Dry and crisp with light noble hop character. Easy to drink.

Like many of the other raters, I found this atypical to the style. This was my first in a flight that included a belgian ale and I thought the bartender had mixed up the pour order. Fruity, spicy; lively, crisp; a very interesting pilsener. I was convinced to try it because of Ratebeerians ratings and I was not disappointed.

Some good attributes but it fails in the flavor department unfortunately. Okay for a us attempt but too much diacetyl.

On tap at Dexters - Pours clear yellow with a small white head. Nose shows spicy hops with a floral note. Has some spicy saison notes as well. Taste is pale malt, light, dusty yeast, some apricot fruity sweetness, and a finish that dries out a bit with some mineral notes. Not what I expected, and a bit of a letdown.

Tap at brewery. Sour lemon, grain/malt aroma. Cloudy golden, small white head, lacing. Musty old basement, light grassy hops bitterness.

Tap. Funky citrus barley malt and light hay aroma. Hazy golden yellow color with small head. Basement, barley malt and moderately bitter dry grass flavor. Excellent.

Not sure I wanted a normal pilsner with so many good choices on tap but it is hard to resist a Livery brew since they are so hard to find. And a good decision it was because this is no normal pilsner. Pored a light copper with a big earthy aroma. A sharp crisp first taste but what sets this apart comes after. It has a funky sour sort of Farmhouse Ale taste. Very unique and drinkable.

Pours a hazy blonde with a good head and good lace. The aroma is bready with some good complimentary herbal and grassy hops. The flavor is a nice dry malty dominated beer with plenty of good herbal hop balance with just a perfect amount of bitterness. Quite good.
