COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This deep copper colored Ale is named after Steve’s homebrew buddy Thom Phillips, who has had a part in helping to formulate some of the final Ale recipes at the Livery. Hints of caramel make their way through the aromatic bitterness of Centennial hops.

Pours a dark amber orange with medium white head, lots of lacing. Aroma of herbal hops, citrus, and a bit of a floral character to it. Flavor matches well and has a very creamy carbonation to it, but not very lively. Decent, but not my style of IPA.

Michigan Brewer’s Guild Summer Festival 2010. Deep amber pour. The nose is softly hoppy with a mixture of herbs and fruitiness. A little bit of light toastiness. Some grapefruit as well as a bit of fruity sweetness. Grainy flavour. Meh.

On tap at the brewery. Murky orange-red body, medium cream-yellow head. Fruity, caramely nose balanced by leafy hops; sweet. Leafy, floral body, hops-driven but balanced by caramel and dark fruits. After a few ounces, the bitter astringency of the slick, tannic hops becomes a bit much to bear.

Tap at brewery. Pours a hazy amber with barely any head. Aroma of fresh herbs, pine, and a touch of pink grapefruit. Tastes like grassy toast, some very faint bready toffe. Herb and pine hop forward. Well crafted. Quite good and refreshing, though it gets a bit more doughy toffee forward as it warms

Draft. Pours a slightly hazy dark copper color with a small off white head. The aroma is caramel malt, citrus, earthy hops, and moderately sweet. The flavor is caramel malt, crystal malt, citrus and pine hops. A tad thin with good bitterness in the finish. Not bad, but they have many others that are better.

Pours an amber color from the tap at the brewery. Smells and tastes of red apples and pie spices with a little citrus. Slightly bitter, but quite drinkable.

Very dark coppery amber pour with off-white head. The nose is PNW citrus and pine hops. First flavors are the grapefruit and pine notes supported pretty well by the sweet crystal malt caramel and toffee, but very definitely emphasizing the hops more than the malt, and that’s always fine by me. Finishes with a bitter astringency and alcoholic dryness. Good effort.

Anniversary Trip 2007

5/17/2007: Transparent chesnut/amber color. Aroma is toffee malt and light citrus hops. Flavor has malty base (caramel/toffee), slightly buttery (English-like), and a moderate level of bitterness. A little maltier than the Livery McGilligan’s IPA. Slightly dry in the finish. Medium body and smooth on the palate. This would make a nice session IPA.

Draught sample (6.25% ABV) at The Livery in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
