Tasted at Green Street Smoked Meats during trip to Chicago. Wonderful rich barley nose, slight notes of banana and clove from Weisse yeast. Helpful bartender said this is a rare and lost style from germany called ’dampfbier’. Super drinkable and happy to see this lost style gaining attention in America. crossovert (13457) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 20, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2012 the bartenders pronounce dampf wrong, but fuck it, this is one of the best american brewed german style beers. ordybill (1815) - Douglasville, Georgia, USA - NOV 28, 2016
Poured from a 500 ML bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a murky golden amber with a medium sized white head. The aroma is very fruity with some caramel. The taste is light caramel with some fruit, has faint hops in the background. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 19, 2011
Draft at LO... Medium peach, mostly clear, great looking head, bright white, perfect retention and lace... Smells a touch sweet sugary, a touch of pilsner malt with a bitter floral note, subtle but I like it... Tastes great, I hate lighter german beers until now, lightly sweet balanced with enough floral hops to make it totally crushable, a distinct rice finish is my only complaint... This is awesome, try it. jmagnus87 (2912) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - JAN 8, 2013
Draft. Notes of citrus, sweet bread and floral hops. Pretty darn good beer. Wish it was in bottles...or more available around me.

Draft at Bavarian Lodge, 9/28. A hazy-brownish amber, a half inch of foamy head. A brown ale malt nose, well balanced by what smells like Northern brewer hops. Taste is big on both malt and hops, and more complex than a broad-appeal flagship beer like Anchor Steam. Just sayin’. The description on the menu claims it should have a mild profile, but everything here is pretty bold and up front. Probably just tapped the keg. More like a Steam-Oktoberfest for all its maltiness. Some spices on the palate, no doubt from the warm ferment. Impossible to drink quickly, and surely best enjoyed on draft. Yet it still has the pretense to try for a "crisp, clean" lager finish. superspak (5800) - Michigan, USA - APR 22, 2014
500 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of biscuit, cracker, toast, light caramel, pear, apple, floral, grass, pepper, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of bready malt, earthy hop, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of biscuit, cracker, toast, nuttiness, light caramel, pear, apple, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of biscuit, cracker, toast, nuttiness, light caramel, pear, apple, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of bready malt, earthy hop, and yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. A slight metallic note noticed on the finish, but not really detrimental to the flavor. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately crisp, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice steam beer style. All around good balance and robustness of bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering. Pours an orange copper with a thick head. Notes of yeast/bread with mild bitter hops. Hops show a mid bitter nuance with a hidden malt underbelly. A nice hop finish that goes long. Lukaduke (3206) - Gray, Maine, USA - SEP 13, 2013
Pours a nice copper amber color with a healthy two fingers of tight bubbled foam. The nose understated with light whiffs of sweet grain, touch of yeasty tang and a bit of fruity esters. The palate follows with a nicely balanced highly drinkable beer. Nice round malts with touches of doughy bread yeasty esters and a hint of grassy bitterness. Nice focused beer ! merc7186 (3142) - North Tonawanda, New York, USA - NOV 13, 2013
A: Hazy Amber/Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head Ring, Mild Lacing
S: Medium Grainy Malts, Mildly Floral, Mild Honey
T: Orange Hops, Crisp, Bready, Mildly Malty,
M: Average Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Crisp, Mildly Drying
Overall, a pretty nice Cali steam beer, nothing that will blow you away but the style is not a mind blowing style either.
