bottled, special
This special batch of ale has been matured in oak barrels which had previously been used to age Loch Lomond Single Malt Whisky. The result of this maturation is a smooth, full-bodied, dark ruby ale with warm roast malt flavours complemented by hints of vanilla. Limited run - each bottle is numbered.

[email protected] Very deep amber colour with small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, wooden, mild alcohol and some slight toffeeish notes. Flavour is brown sugar, fruits, some wooden notes as well as mild alcohol. Not all too much whisky in it, just a very slight sweet note.

Bottle at home. Pours deep brown, nose and taste are chocolate, whisky, smooth and creamy. Rating based on the first bottle I had, the second had a lot of green apple.

500ml bottle courtesy of JohnRMurdoch and Pot Still, Glasgow - first tasted this one at meet the brewer at Pot Still on 21 Jun 12 - dark brown ale, bubbly tan head, sweet roasted malt aroma, whisky flavour and sweet caramel malt, bit thin for its strength, moderate carbonation

Bottle from The Pot Still. Dark brown colour, not much head. Sweaty sock aroma. Sweet resin whiskey aroma sour aftertaste. This is a minger.

Pours a rather unexpected dark tan colour, but not as dark as you would expect. Nose has a strong, almost super lager tang of alcohol to it. Taste confirms this with a lot of burn fro the booze as the body, although toffee sweet is quite thin. Not a great deal of whisky character beyond the sweetness of the malt I.e smacks of a rather mediocre lowland malt. Not bad, but needs more body, or longer in the cask. Maybe a more complex whisky might do the trick.

Benjii (3050) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2012
In bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a lacy light tan head. Aroma of acetone, green apples, apple bonbons, starfruit, caramel and chocolate. Similar flavours with a little Weetabix malt also. Mild carbonation, and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol lingers, quite sweet and just a little thin too.

BenH (3431) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2012
Bottle at craig’s. Dark amber brown with tan head. Aroma of sour green apples, granny smith, toffee. Taste has caramel, toffee, apples, hint of whisky. Slightly sweet with a sticky finish.
