This special beer has been brewed in the year 2000 according to an old Russian porter recipe with brown malt, Russian kwas, hops and water from BALIKs own source at Ebersol. It then matured during one year in old oak butts and received individual care up to its maturity. Its has been brewed and bottled in limited quantities at the brewery Locher at Appenzell. This very demanding procedure gives the BALIK BEER its noble and characteristic sherry taste and its amber colouring. But this sparkling BALIK BEER may reserve you some surprise. With 11 %vol. of alcohol, it compares much more with a wine than with traditional beer. We recommend to drink BALIK BEER cool, at a temperature of 12 C. BALIK BEER should be stored in a dark place. When stored, the quality of the beer will improve yearly and its taste will become more and more harmonious.

33cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian (thanks!) Pours slightly hazy amber with an off-white head. Smell a bit strange. Aroma of caramel, malt, sour wood with hints of smoke, fruits and some basement notes. Alcohol is quite well integrated for a 11% beer. Quite sweet with some wooden sourness and a bit harsh bitterness in the finish. Quite strange, but interesting enough. (2013-06-05)

Bottle from a deli shop at Heathrow. Pours clear dark golden with a big creamy snow white head. Aroma is spicy and perfumed grainy. Taste is spiced grains, lots of alcohol, reminds me more of a strong lager, this is not a porter. Burning alcoholic aftertaste, my lips feel numb.

Bottle. Pours with a thin white head that disappears quickly, clear coppery orange color. Sweet maltiness, candy, and fruits in the aroma. Candy sugar drives the flavor, vanilla, and just an overall sweetness with booze that I really dont like. Thicker body, and just doesnt suit. Bleh really.
