Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a clear dark reddish-brown color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel and slight hops. Light to medium body with flavors of smoked malt, caramel and mild earthy hops. The finish is sweet and slightly smokey with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

At the brewer. Pours dark with no head. Malty caramel with a taste of chocolate. Served very cold which made it better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

5oz on tap at Lock 27. Clear dark red color. Thin tan head. Ropes of lace. Dark fruit, some caramel malt, kind of toasty and mildly metallic. Medium body, kind of full feel. Soft, lighter carbonation. Slick finish. Moderate sweet taste. Kind of a subpar brown ale for me. Kind of sweet, dark fruity, malty. A little hop balance may have helped? I don’t know.

Draft at the brewery. Pours Ruby brown with a fizzy white head. Tastes like roasted malt, Smokey wood, light ash, light coffee bitterness. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like roasted malt, light marshmallow, vegetable/gourd.

Tap at brewery. Pours clear brown with creamy off-white head. Aroma is cereal and caramel malts, light toast, light fig, and some nuttiness. Flavor is dry malts, light smoke, some caramel, light bitterness, and some dark fruit esters; dry finish. Light/medium body and medium carbonation.

Draft sample. Poured a clear brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth slick texture and soft carbonation. Solid balanced toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good brew.

Draft to taster at Lock 27. Looks solid; a fairly transparent copperish brown with eggshell lacing. Smells solid too; malty and nut with a mildly sweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with a touch of coffee and caramel. Average on the palate. A solid brown ale.

Pours brown with red hue. Small white head and no lacing. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste is the same with tons of sweet caramel and toffee and lingering aftertaste. Nice Brown.
