Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. Pours a hazy dark copper color with a medium sized offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, nutty notes, caramel and herbal notes. The taste is herbal, roasty with chocolate notes. Medium bodied. Not much hint of the bourbon here, but it definitely stated so on the label.

At Holiday Ale Festival in Portland. Delicious. Aromas of chocolate, mint (how?) cherries, and bourbon. Tastes of melted chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and bourbon. Pours black and foamy.

Tap at Holiday Ale Fest. Near black pour with an inch of tan foam. Smells of roast, chocolate, some oak and a mild bit of bourbon. Taste is much the same, not very much bourbon taste in this one though. Still quite an enjoyable beer.

Bottle from the 5th Quadrant Side Bar. Colour... essentially black with a very thick tan head. Nose... eminently roasty with hints of whisky and dark chocolate. Palate... moderately chewy, though not viscous, with plenty of cocoa mass, roasted coffee, damp earth, and subtle tones of Bourbon on the finish.

Tap @ Lompocís Side Bar... Poured dark, near black with amber highlights and a thick, tan head. Lots of roast, good bitterness but balanced by a cocoa and caramel sweetness. The rye was earthy and endorsed chocolate notes and fresh pressed coffee flavors. Honestly, the bourbon wasnít very pronounced at all. Slight booze kick but nothing really distinguishing it as whiskey.
