8.1 on RB, the base says 8%, but this said 7.4% on the bottle. On the weak thin side for an imperial (and a barrled beer) but it works ok. The barrel is a little too dominant and has a touch of that sour astringency that can sometimes accompany the good things in a barrel. Otherwise, it’s solid. Roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and booze. A little rough around the edges, but opens up nicely." hellbilly (3248) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - FEB 27, 2012
bomber brewed 8/21/09 sampled 7/3/11.
porter colored with a tannish ow head.
the aroma is full of peppery barrel notes and bourbon spice... also, bs, grass, dust, choco and vanilla.
the flavor is the same only kinda shallow....with a mild bourbon sourness.
the mf is quite thin as well. 7/3/6.5/3/15 CheersMate (1343) - Portland (Sellhood), Oregon, USA - DEC 24, 2010
Bomber from John’s Market. This beer is quite effervescent; it poured and it was really fa-sizzle, and the head disappeared all quick and stuff. The beer is quite opaque, know what I’m sayin’? Heavy bourbon and vanilla aroma. It’s quite pungent, yo. A slight digression -- listening to Captain Beefheart and rating beer is pretty coo’. Bits of chocolate are poking through, and the Oompa Loompas are happy. Too much bourbon and not enough dimensions action going on here. Nice roast flavor at first, and then I get a soft bourbon and vanilla flavor. You wouldn’t suppose, from what was smenizzled in the aroma that it would be this roast. The roast flavor and bourbon flavor don’t get in the way of each other. It’s a tad too thin for my liking. Touches of vanilla are hitting all sides of my mouth. Yippee, skippy, dippy, doo what a somewhat decent brew. skoisirius (1909) - Earth, Washington, USA - DEC 7, 2010
Bomber picked up from Belmont Station. Pour is black with mild red tan notes. Nose is fairly straight forward bourbon and mild molasses, slight roast. Flavors are well blended. Mild roast and coffee from the porter mixed well with medium to heavier flavors of vanilla and gentle bourbon. Quite smooth actually, but it wasn’t packing the punch I was looking for somehow. A bit thin texturally for a brew of this nature. Finish is wet and subdues rather quickly while leaving a light oaky sweet taste on the palate. Good stuff...could be better. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 8, 2010
Tap @ Lompoc’s Side Bar... Poured black with a thin head that faded quickly. Nose was boozy, whiskey, vanilla oat, and roast. Despite all the heat in the nose, not as much came through in the flavor. Lots of roasted cocoa, mocha, dark chocolate, molasses, hints of vanilla and ginger. Wow, this is world class!
