’13 on tap at oaks bottom. I can drink quickly, especially the first one, but this one i was happy just to sip. Aromas of alcohol, brown sugar, prunes. Sippin’ smooth. some resiny hops coming up to keep the balance with the complex malt, and a little smoke. rich finish douglas88 (9508) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 10, 2014
Awesome beer. Very underrated. Pours a reddish color with a small white head. A massive fresh bourbon nose, some cherries. The flavor is big malts, sweet, huge bourbon, heat, woody. A massive barrel and the base is more than big enough to compete. Sarlacc83 (2287) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 9, 2014
A: Dark brown with a wispy head. Good lacing.
N: Pleasant caramel, vanilla, toffee, quick breads, touch of prune, some cherry overtones.
T: Malty with a backend hop bitterness. Some astringency and alcohol flavor.
M: Sticky and full.
O: A pretty nice beer that would do well to lose the astringency. Similar to Hellshire I. yespr (46567) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - JUL 29, 2012
22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty and caramelish, toffee and whiskey. Sweet, whiskey, caramelish and toasted dark malty. Sweet malty and whiskey smooth finish. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 18, 2012
Bottle. Thanks deftim13. This is a nice beer, in a style I’m not always fond of. Deep plum brown with, low carbonation with a some light white lace that fades, leaving it looking more like a thin port. Nose is sweet bourbon and oak, dark fruits, brown sugar, lots of caramel, nice. Similar flavor, lots of dark fruit and caramel malt sweetness, bourbon. It’s a little rough at the end with some sharp bitterness but overall pretty good. Wow, the bitterness at the end is kinda fruity and sorta juniper like but it makes the beer very hard to drink when it’s not a little too cold which is very unfortunate for a barley wine as i like them at a warmer temp than most beers. Tastes like I’m 11 years old wandering through the forrest and i just ate some nasty fruit skin and its bitter as shit. Otherwise, this beer showed promise.

Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. A nice bourbon and oak aroma followed by plenty of toffee and brown sugar. Just a mild booze notes and a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is surprisingly woody and hoppy. Quite a bit of pine and earthy hop flavor, which is also a bit of a surprise. Lots of oxidation, but not so much in the cardboard sense. A hint of bourbon on the palate along with good malt character. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 12, 2011
Bottle shared at the big Hair of the Dog PreSale Tasting... Poured darkish, burnt orange with a thin, beige head. Some really wonderful woody, oak, and bourbon tones with dark, toasted grains and dark fruit flavors. They improved on an already exceptional beer.
