rated 1/27/03 This was a very dark brown, some light coming through, with a thin off-white head that diminished quickly and left little lacing, served in a wine glass. A light malt/alcohol nose, malty sweet flavors up front, and slightly bitter finish that was just a bit cloying, with the alcohol noticable throughout. Good high ABV but could have been masked better, but still better than most small brewpub barleywines.
Lompoc old tavern rat 9% on tap at Imazato. A deep red with a nice beige head of foam. The aroma is plums and rich raisins. Full malty mouthfeel with a rich chewy malt character, raisins, stone fruit and some caramel sweetness. Solid. Prufrockstar (2132) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - NOV 28, 2015
Draft at uber. Never really thought much of lompoc, but Luttonm and others tell me Iím missing out, so hereís another go. 2014. Medium amber pour, some head. Aroma is classic toffee/plum/dark fruit and oxidation barleywine. Tastes nice - moderate sweetness, dry herbal somewhat oxidized finished. Full body. Slick texture. Overall: my deScriptions arenít exactly glowing with praise, but this is solid -- definitely better than average. Ratman197 (14686) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - AUG 27, 2015

Bottle. Pours muddy brown with thin off white head. Nose/taste of figs, dates, vanilla, light whiskey, oak, molasses, toffee and caramel. Full mouth feel. Finishes a little "hot" with some warming alcohol. Otherwise smooth and flavorful. Livid (49) - - JAN 2, 2012
22oz, Dec 2009 vintage with Don Younger on the label. Pours thick dark brown, 1/2" of tan head that dissipates quickly. Smells of vanilla, molasses, slight caramel and figs or dates. Full bodied on the palate, malty vanilla bourbon oak assault with a lingering caramel/vanilla/toffee aftertaste. Thereís a slight hint of alcohol, but not much for a big beer.
