On draught at the 5th Quadrant during ABA Beer Tour 07 as "LSD" (Lompoc Strong Draft). Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy off-white head that has good retention. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, molasses some dark pitted fruits and flowery hops. Taste is full bodied, very light carbonated with flavors of dark bready malt, molasses and plenty of smoked wood. Finish is sweet, a little leathery texture and then a dry smokey malt aftertaste. awaisanen (1304) - Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 10, 2007
On tap at the Horse Brass Pub. Pours a dark mahogany ruddy brown color with a huge head of pillowy beige foam. The nose is sweet and fruity with notes of plum, brown sugar, and a hint of smokey maple. A gentle grassy breeze blows lazily in the background. Medium-full bodied, creamy carbonated mouthfeel that gives this one a borderline nitrogenated creaminess. Too much residual sugar leaves a ton of chewy caramel melanoidins on the front of the palate. This mingles with some leathery roast characters and more of that smokey maple syrup. A healthy wave of hops drys up the palate considerably, but doesn’t really add much flavor, or other dimensions for that matter, then a blast of white grapefruit rind in the final smack. This flavor doesn’t seem to fit well with the fruity, sweet malt characters, but it definitely helps give it the impression of being lighter bodied and less sugary. Flavors are pretty good, but a drier attenuation with more hop flavor and less hop bitterness would suit my tastes better. AlabastorJones (814) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 29, 2007
@ the brewery... We loved going up to the bar and ordering a pitcher of LSD, which is what they call this beer at the brewery, big tan head, brown, sweet fruit nose, woody and smokey, roasty finish, dry and dark and delicious boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 8, 2007
Tap at their 23rd location. Poured a deep, dark, almost black red with a thin white head. Moderately carbonated palate with flavors of smoked, roasted malts, maybe prunes or raisons, and a nice mellow hoppy and nutty undertone. Finished. Sorta IPAish but I couldn’t tell if that was because my tasted buds were messed up from the C-Note I hade before. harrisoni (18823) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 30, 2006
UPDATED: NOV 7, 2006 On tap at New Old Lompoc NW Portland. Very dark ruby, beige lasting head. Some liquoricey malt on aroma. Lovely slightly sour malts. Very different English old ale style. Good coffee malt. Different. Good hop, dry malt finish.
I had the nitro version of this too, which is awful. It’s very educational though to have the two together. The nitro is stripped of flavour. A bit like a coffee creme. Like a latte with malt. Hilarious 1.8/5

Tap at Oaks Bottom. Deep brown with red tones. Modest smokey aroma, some roast malt. Bedium bodied and fairly smooth. Lightly fruity aroma when agitated. Chocolatey, modest amounts of dark fruit in flavor. Ever so slightly boozey. Decent but fails to impress. unclemattie (4358) - Georgia, USA - AUG 12, 2006
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2009 LSD for short. Had this at Lompoc, Portland. dark brown in color, thin white head. heavy malt aroma. Caramel, molasses, maybe raisins. Very nice hop finish. Although a bit dry, Balances nice. Reminds me of Arrogant, but better. Also in 22oz bottle 2.5yrs after my first rating. JMFG (1587) - Florida, USA - JUL 27, 2006
On tap. Poured a dark brown with thin white head. Smells of caramel and some smokiness, but I’d like more of that reflected in the taste, which was hoppy, but not overboard. It was a little too carbonated. Overall, it was a good beer, a few small tweaks would make this real nice. DYCSoccer17 (3703) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 16, 2006
8 ounce sample at the brewpub. Sweet, sticky, caramelly malt aroma with some hints of dark fruits, like raisins. There is also a perfumey and floral aroma. Develops a more orangey citrus aroma as this warms. Transparent mahogany color with a small, fleeting whitish head. Thinnish body is the first thing I notice about this. Palate then gets barraged by citrus hops to start, followed by some roasty malts. Finishes dry, VERY hopped with lots of grapefruit. This beer is a wanna-be Arrogant Bastard. harlequinn (2744) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - JAN 12, 2006
See, this falls back into my same gripe. This is does not fit the category that it is brewed in. Way too light in style, with a signifigant maltiness, great flavor, but the hop profile that is present in the aroma, is just not followed in the flavor profile, it is there but it is strongly lacking.
