2010-06-26. Dark brown body with a small beige head. 3+ Sweet flavour, sugary notes, very light roasty touches. Aroma is similar, mild overall, showing toast and roasty malt accents over sweet malt. Smooth average plus paalte is lightly carbonated. Enjoyably simple, its tasty but might get cloying in pint form. Great American Strong Ale. Aroma: Sweet, smokey, nutty. Appearance: Dark brown heart, mahogany with golden corners. Taste: Smoke, chocolate malt, toffee, spice. Palate: Great balance between hoppy/bitter and malty/smooth. koopa (338) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 23, 2010

Appearance: Nearly black with red/brown corners and a cafe latte 1 finger foam head with a bit of retention and some lacing.
Smell: Nice roast malt character, a touch of toffee, and perhaps a dark fruit note such a fig.
Taste: Exactly like the nose.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with enough carbonation.
Drinkability: fairly sessionable.
I though LSD was pretty decent, didn’t like C-Note Imperial Pale Ale though. I’ll still be trying more of their offerings.

Bottle:   Deep brown, nearly black, moderate to large frothy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Soft husky nose, a little roasted and burnt.   Some campfire and charred wood.   Bitter and sweet hoppy charred wood on the tongue.   Strange combination.   Not very big for being a Strong Ale of sorts.   This one does work, somewhat, but would be better had it been maltier, meatier.   Not heavy enough, for me at least, to qualify.   Somewhat reminds me of a Black IPA with a touch of Scottish.   Take that back, almost not even big enough for an IPA.   As it warms, I am warming up to it.   This is one of those odd duck beers that you need to keep drinking to figure it out.   Seems very quaffable, in a strange sort of way.   Just wished it were maltier, sweeter, and more viscous.   Oh well...

Bottle. Aroma kind of harsh with what maybe was supposed to be smoke but for me was a burning alcohol sort of smell with molasses and bread that add some positive qualities. Flavor again harsh with bold and boring hop bitterness competing with the oddly strong alcohol for 6.9% and leaving the positive notes behind. 22. Pours a nearly opaque ebony with a dense, creamy tan head that fades fairly to a loose scattering of bubbles and stringy lace. Mild nose of brown bread and molasses. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Rich roasty molasses and brown bread on the mid-palate, nice campfire finish. Good twist on the big heavy new world winter warmers. Bottle thanks to kenb. Pours brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, crackery malt, stale malt, and a touch of grassy hops. Flavor is harsh with brash bitter hops, odd-tasting caramel malt, and burnt malt. Ugh, just not tasty at all.
