Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. Inky black with a rapidly disappearing thin brown head. It has very rich roasted coffee, chocolate and liquorice flavours with slight sour fruitiness and more chocolate and coffee on the finish. Fantastic! Beersiveknown (5301) - NORTHERN IRELAND - FEB 14, 2013

Dark tan corona on a dark brown beer with grey Brown head. Rich vient toast dark chocolate, blackcurrant, rich tobacco. Thick chocolate and roast barley, low carbonation quite sweet with dry finish.
Inky and oily, black as a tar pit. Burnt coffee goodness. Got that unmistakable 1925 taste. Another winner in a brown paper bag label. cgarvieuk (25234) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 16, 2013

Bottle from The Kernel Brewery, Bermondsay. Poured a thick black colour with a medium, dense tan head. Strong aroma of cocoa, vanilla and a slightly salty edge. Full, silky mouth feel. Flavours of coffee, liquorice and dark rum. Leaves with espresso, roasted malts and tangy black syrup. Great balance between bitter and sweet flavours.

33cl bottle from the brewery. It pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a medium beown head. Foam is sticky and quite lasting. Aroma is intense and complex with chocolate and wood above all. Coffee and roasted malts as well. Taste is sweet-ish with nice bitterness form the woody roasty quality to cut trough it. Chocolate and coffe again, with hints of vanilla and peat. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Overall, very good. gunnar (9326) - Sandnes, NORWAY - JAN 12, 2013

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2013 On gravity at the winter beer festival, the Three Tuns, Bristol 23/2/2013. Near black with a tight, off-white head. Big, bitter chocolate, smooth roasted grains, a touch of dark fruit and pleasantly dry finish. Ridiculously easy drinking, a half pint easily went down and was immediately followed by a full one. My beer of the festival. Excellent all round. Rasmus40 (21461) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - MAY 10, 2013

Gorgeous black pour with a lingering cream head. Smells like a good stout. Tastes like a Kernel twist on stout. Beautifully balanced if a little thin for the style. Nice zing in the mouth at the end. Wow a great summer stout!
