Our Brown Ale gives a nod to the Northern English Brown style. However, since defeating the English in 1783, it is analogistic that the American version be stronger to reflect on England’s vanquishment. Gentleman’s Relish uses Maris Otter malt as the base, augmented with dark crystal and chocolate malts. Whole cone English hops are used throughout the boil, imparting their characteristic smooth bitterness. The beer is named after an Englishman’s favorite snack, an anchovy paste, typically eaten on toast.

Tasting notes: dark brown with a thick creamy head; chocolate-caramelly-nuttiness yields to a clean hoppy finish. It makes one almost wish that the English were still here to share a pint of this fine brew...almost.

Dark brown pour with ruby edges. Light head. Sweet malty aroma. Some dark fruit notes. Mild hop earthiness. Nutty flavor. Peanut butter. Toasty. Toffee. Finishes with subtle bitterness and earthy/spiciness of noble hops. Not bad at all. ---Rated via iPhone

Very (too?) dark brown Ale. Good chocolate and bread aroma. Not sure if nitrogen is the right serve for this beer? Creamy head, obviously, but it’s not a stout. Gentle and smooth palette with suitably roasted finish. Good English hop bitterness, does not detract from malt character. Nitro in the end put me off what could have been a good beer.

750ml bottle. No apparent code dating. Appearance: Deep dark brown, opaque, with slight touch of ruby on the edges. Thick pillowy khaki head and nice lacing. Aroma: Chocolate, nutty, toasty maltiness with some cherry and apple as well. Taste: Starts with a rich malt sweetness that is caramel, nutty and chocolatey, then shows complexity with some cherry and dark fruit notes. Dries out on the back end, and moderate bitterness is enough to balance the rich maltiness. Mouthfeel: Relatively heavy bodied for the style, with a surprising creaminess. Moderate carbonation. Finish: Dries out thru the finish and leaves a very nutty and toasty maltiness. Malty. Overall: A damn good take on an English Nut Brown. Malt character dominates, with a wonderful complexity of the typical caramel, nutty, toastiness, with a unique dark fruitiness. This beer definitely has a heavy body and creaminess that typical but browns, which makes the beer feel bigger than it is. Dries out and remains balanced despite the rich maltiness and body. Really well done.

Nitrokeg at Ginger Man, Plano. Dark brown, rich creamy nitro head. Toasty nose with some coffee and licorice. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded, creamy mouthfeel. Caramel and coffee, fudge and hay. Mid bitter finish. Well made.

Decent brown ale with a malty base. Hints of chocolate but with a more pronounced hop bitterness. Smooth with a nice weight but not too heavy. Some nuttiness typical of the style. Standard brown color.

Sampled at The Thirsty Growler. A bit rough for a brown, nutty roast aroma with light neutral hop character. Dark brown with slight haze and thin head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Grainy start, heavy roast and grist. Burlap with rye spice. Bitter finish and after with a hint of tobacco.

Better than decent brown ale. Pours dark with a nice sharp bitter bite at the end. Body is chocolate and caramel. Thick up front and gets milder through the sip.

Dark mahogany in color, light beige head, goes from Swiss cheesy to wispy. Aroma is deep, woody, nutty, leathery, notes of cigar smoke. Perfect body for the style, deep roasted maltiness, nuts, toffee, burnt chocolate ....lasting finish. I like the beer.

Nitro > Flying Saucer. Not sweet enough to be a brown. This is really a porter b/c of the color, little roastiness and dry palate. Reminds me of Fullers London Porter and that's not a bad thing.
