COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Initially Pioneer I: Yellow Rose, later on became a regular.

A SMaSH, Single Malt and Single Hop, IPA using a caboodle (technical term for a large amount of malt) of malt and a new hop released in 2012 called Mosaic (HBC 369). It is a daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14), one of our favorite hops. Whole cone Mosaic is used for bittering, flavoring, and aroma in the kettle; it is also massively dry hopped. The beer is named after a Texas Heroine.

Tasting notes: chalk-white head with a very clean malt backbone. The hops impart strong grapefruit, pineapple, and blueberry flavor and aroma. A strong beer that is extremely quaffable.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2017 This is one of my favorite Texas IPAs for sure. It’s daaaaank on the ol’ nose, dank like a wet field of Hillsboro alfalfa. It’s fruity after that, fruity like Pebbles. I love drinking this beer.

I got a little citrus but not as much as most have noted; not a hop bomb; plenty of malt to balance. not my favorite style but enjoyed this one - unique bottle also

Bottle found @ D&Q, Houston. Hazy pale yellow pour with a prominent white head. Really bright, expressive nose. Loads of tropical fruit character. Strong pineapple and melon. A touch of citrus and a bit of dank greenery. Moderately bitter flavor. Still quite fruity. Citrus fruit smoothy. Restrained, clean malt. Lightly chalky. Soft carbonation. Quite quaffable stuff.

Light golden, transparent body with a white, soapy head. The aroma is unique. Sweet breads, malt, hops, honey, flowers. A hoppy beer for sure. Yet, the malt presence can not be ignored. Normally, I find this as a deterrent. However, the malty sweetness, floral notes, and hoppy character complement one another so well. A terrifically balanced, highly drinkable, intriguing beer. Great stuff.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2017 Thanks Virby44 for the bottle! Poured into a taster showing well filtered dark orange with half a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows floral notes with a malt background. The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Light honey sweetness with light flavors of refreshing pineapple and lemon with a light bitterness on the finish. The resurgence shows lightly sweet malts. The sweetness does not seem to come from the malts but rather from the hops(?). Regardless, the sweetness is not off-putting in any way and harmonious with the beer. Fantastic.

A couple years ago I would have said that this is the best IPA in Texas and one of the best Mosaic IPAs anywhere. And on tap it still often is. But their bottling process must be so amateurish as all their bottles for the past year or so have either been infected and/or oxidized, which is simply not OK. Clean it up and I’ll re-rate in the 4-4.5 range.
