I am as likely as not to drink a guest tap at Fullsteam, so when I saw Lone Rider I wasn’t familiar with, that’s what I went for. Pours a light hazy brown with yellow-ish notes. That, plus notes of caramel and slight butterscotch (not in a diacetyl way), and I wondered perhaps if it might be a biere de garde, though not many breweries try that style. Some mild clove and spice notes, and some yeast notes. Wouldn’t have probably guessed a weizen bock; the malt and hop profile didn’t seem quite German. Still, not a bad beer, even if slightly too sweet. shhmoke (32) - North Carolina, USA - MAR 7, 2013
My favorite beer from the Cape Fear Beer Fest. I admittedly skipped to the front of the line multiple times to get a quick refill. Pours a reddish brown color with a sweet and spice aroma. Taste is also sweet, with banana, cloves, and yeast. a very well balanced and solid american weizen bock. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 9, 2013
On tap at G2B, Durham. Cloudy rust-colored pour, with a healthy carbonation. Nice nose, brightly spicy and raw in an inviting sort of way. Taste is initially grainy, but not cloyingly sweet or overly estery (thank fuck). As the beer settles down, it has something of the ripe, raw quality of a homebrewed saison, well-hopped, in addition to the expected WB properties. Not bad at all. Tap at Acme. Dark cloudy reddish brown with a foamy, steady off white head. Nose is peppery, esters, light bubblegum. Flavor is similar, pepper, esters, light banana, but fairly well balanced and not too sweet like
many in the style. Enjoyed it. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - NOV 7, 2012
Draught. Pours a very cloudy darker brown color with a moderate head. The nose and taste on this are both a bit sweet, a bit more than I expected. It’s also remarkably heavy. OK, but not something I’d order again.

The Pit in Raleigh. Pours murky brown with red orange highlights. One finger of beige tan head. Nose is alright, not a fan of dark grain and weisse yeasts. Soy sauce/grainy, some dark fruit, and banana. Round flavor, more contained than aroma. SOme clove and spice, and banana bread. Medium body and crisp carbonation. Pint at Tylers Apex. Good aroma, sweet, spice. Good banana, clove, caramel. Big initial head gave way to ring and minor lace sweet spice flavor medium body smooth creamy mouthfeel, sweet spice finish. This one was best cold, dulled as warmed. Nice yeasty notes in aroma. Flavor is malty, with less of the yeast. Solid as usual from Lonerider.
