Pours dark and full bodied with a wispy light tan head. Nose shows day old cold pressed coffee and an acidic character. Very muddled aroma, hard to distinguish finer aromatics. Flavor is kind of the same, doesn’t have much structure. The pieces are there but they’re not coming together. Some day old coffee and chocolaty flavor with that weird thin feeling from coffee but the body from oats and lactose. Very disjointed.

Bottle from a recent trade. 2013 vintage. Pours a stout brown with an off-tan head. Nos is chocolate fudge and chocolate brownie with cocoa and baker’s chocolate. Flavor hits the same with brownie, baker’s chocolate, and cocoa. Medium in body and lingering Belgian chocolate in the finish. A nice beer, all told.

12oz can. Had no idea what this brewery is or anything more than it was a $2 9%abv impy stout. Pours dark brown, almost black, small head. A very mild impy despite being 9%, and full of adjuncts. No acrid black malts, no mineralness, low acidity, and no overbearing coffee. So many negatives not present. Aroma has the cocoa nibs more than coffee. Coffee is mild and just an accent to the beer. Mild and light earthy malts, even a little boggy, light sweetness. Flavor is xcocoa, light coffee brownie. No bigness, nothing extreme. Wowza what a beer.

Draught @ Churchkey, Washington, DC. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, darck chocolate and roast, with notes of vanilla and barrel. Sweetish flavour of malt and vanilla, mwith notes of chocolate and roast, and hints of fruit and yeast. Lactic hints. Roasty and barrellike afteaste with hints of yeast. Good.

Shared can. Tasty and well balanced. Great silky mouthfeel from the oats. Sweet malt tempered by coffee and dark chocolate. Appropriately bitter finish. Alcohol is subtle. Well done.

Lots of coffee but not much else here. Some sharp roast. Pours black with decent mocha head. Bitter finish. Tap at jackpot.

corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 12, 2015
Pours a dark chestnut brown color that appears black and opaque in the glass with a half finger beige head that immediately settles into a thin ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Sweet and roasted malt aroma with silky chocolate, roasted coffee bean, oatmeal, toffee and burnt toast. Very inviting nose with a nice balance of roast and sweet chocolate malt notes. Lighter bodies than expected and slightly watered down with a balance of sweet and roasted malt notes. Subtle alcohol presence but not too hot. Some sweet chocolate flavor but could be more smooth/silky. Hints of toffee, oatmeal, coffee and burnt toast but not too roasty. A bit dry but not harsh or acrid. Well balanced but doesn’t quite live up to the nose.

Bottle from Bestway. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Doesn’t leave much lacing in the glass. roasted malt notes on the nose. lots of lactose on the tongue with a bit of bitterness from the chocolate. Finishes clean. Solid example of style.
