COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweet Josie is crafted in the American Brown style. This is a complex beer balancing a nice hop bitterness with a generous amount of chocolate and aromatic malts.

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2014 a decent brown ale, overall. am somewhat suprised that it scored as high as it did here, but perhaps i am hung up on the style. I am probably more inclined to enjoy a light porter than a brown ale. no explaining it. had on tap at Lillys pizza in durham. pours a transparent brown with a bit of lacing on top. mouthfeel is light but taste is reminiscent of darker beer- chocolate, earthiness, malt. some hops but have to sort of close your eyes and use your imagination. actually paired decently with the mushroom pizza- all that earthy goodness working together. good. enjoyable. 6/24/2014 On tap at Bens Tune up. Better than I remembered. And one of the only brown ales I will happily drink a pint of. Nice deep brown color with red hues. Nice weight to it as well- like a light porter. Still a bit sweet and malty, but some hop presence balances it out. Really good for the style. 12/2/2014 Still really like it. Nice earthy and sweet malty notes. Smooth. Dare I call it the standard brown ale?

From tap. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty. Liqourice and breadish. Lingering dark malty, dark roasted. Bitter, slight herbal. Dry and roasted dark malty finish. Towards chocolate into the far finish.

(Drank straight from the can) Grant Seafood Festival 2016 ... I dont know what this looks like. I dont care. I cant smell much out of this tiny opening, but Im picking up just a hint of sweet chocolate crme or milk chocolate. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor offers semi-sweet cocoa and a moderate measure of toastiness. Drinks nutty, toasty and moderately sweet. Crisp, lightly roasty, bittersweet finale. Can courtesy of ygtbsm94!

Can (BB May 5, 2017). Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cocoa powder, toasted nuts, grain), with notes of butter, sour grape candy, plastic, stale coffee grounds. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Phew, pretty doggone dirty aroma on this one. Even the malt odors arent all that great. Quite foul aftertaste too. Pretty hard to stomach more than a few grimace-inducing sips before dumping poor ol Josie down the drain.

A fantastic middle of the road brown ale. Packed with brown sugar and chocolate powder flavors.a hint of tartness in the finish. Earthy but not dry. Mild hops lay back behind the malt in the finish. Pours hazy brown capped with a two finger tan head. Huts all the style points and all the components meld artfully.

Lovely brown ale with a decent hop presence. I like this one a lot. Well balanced, but noticeably different than others in this style. Bravo

Bottle from Total Wines, Sterling VA. Copper coloured, with a decent, white, head. Sweet, with brown sugar and hints of berry fruits, before a touch of toasty malts and gentle, slightly boozy, finish. Good.
