4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2013 Aroma is a bit nutty, taste is nice, not hoppy which we don’t like. Not chocolate, even though it says so. It’s cheaper then Highlands Gaelic and at least a tie if not tastier. Oh and....higher alcohol content for that fun evening! Really, this is a fantastic beer at a great price. Go to beer for us! Update: This has become our favorite go-to beer. Stood the test of time for months now. Great taste at a great price. We’ve had many pricier beers that have left us looking for our Josie. She’s hard to beat.
Opaque mahogany with a creamy tan head. Medium full body with moderately high carbonation.raymow (1675) - Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 23, 2017

From tap. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty. Liqourice and breadish. Lingering dark malty, dark roasted. Bitter, slight herbal. Dry and roasted dark malty finish. Towards chocolate into the far finish. hopscotch (11161) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 11, 2017
(Drank straight from the can) Grant Seafood Festival 2016 ... I don’t know what this looks like. I don’t care. I can’t smell much out of this tiny opening, but I’m picking up just a hint of sweet chocolate crème or milk chocolate. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor offers semi-sweet cocoa and a moderate measure of toastiness. Drinks nutty, toasty and moderately sweet. Crisp, lightly roasty, bittersweet finale. Can courtesy of ygtbsm94! Can (BB May 5, 2017). Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cocoa powder, toasted nuts, grain), with notes of butter, sour grape candy, plastic, stale coffee grounds. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Phew, pretty doggone dirty aroma on this one. Even the malt odors aren’t all that great. Quite foul aftertaste too. Pretty hard to stomach more than a few grimace-inducing sips before dumping poor ol’ Josie down the drain.

A fantastic middle of the road brown ale. Packed with brown sugar and chocolate powder flavors.a hint of tartness in the finish. Earthy but not dry. Mild hops lay back behind the malt in the finish. Pours hazy brown capped with a two finger tan head. Huts all the style points and all the components meld artfully. UNCCTF (587) - Cary, North Carolina, USA - FEB 22, 2017
Can. Deep brown color, tan head. Roasty, hints of chocolate. Pretty good for a brown. can8ianben (1556) - State College, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 9, 2017
Lovely brown ale with a decent hop presence. I like this one a lot. Well balanced, but noticeably different than others in this style. Bravo mansquito (6503) - Nueva York, New York, USA - DEC 25, 2016
