Vintage 2011. Gifted by Nick... Thanks! Pours a very dark brown with a reddish hue. Smell is roasted malts, a bit of chocolate, and alcohol. Taste is surprisingly better that the scent... Which I wasn’t expecting. Smooth bitterness followed by unsweetened cocoa. Not really alcohol and a nice roasted malt undertones. Dry finish and good medium body. redpooba (406) - Texas, USA - FEB 26, 2013
A very dark ruby-red with a white head. Spice and caramel on the nose, full bodied with hints of hops and spice. The long linger is delicious and clean. alobar (3825) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 13, 2013

On tap in a tulip. Pours almost black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted and chocolate malts, some bread, and a good amount of floral and almost citrusy hops. Flavor a nice blend of the dark malts and hops. Smooth texture. A good beer. jgb9348 (6320) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - OCT 10, 2012
Deep dark brown coloured body with a super hazy glow and a three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, tons of alcohol, a good amount of earth and a nice licorice and spice note. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours with a touch of coffee, some lighter spices, a lot of caramel and a good robust chocolate flavour goes well with the thick body. Aftertaste shows a lot of good complexity with the roasted malt and coffee the best flavours and the alcohol perhaps showing a bit too much. Overall, a very nice beer for the style, somewhat surprising from the brewery, but a good offering, although still not as good as Zywiec. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 03-October-2009 sampled at home in Washington on 16-December-2009. glassware: Duvel tulip...occasion: watcing The Ten Commandments after the Easter vigil feast--and forty days without beer!...aroma: thick malty presence; not lactic, but a bit milky...appearance: dark black body with an imperially thick brown head; nice brown lacing...palate: active, aggressive presence; full-bodied, effervescent end...taste: slightly hoppy with a staunch malt backbone--a powerful punch...ovverall: "Robust?" Yup--although the alcohol slightly obscures the balance of the beer itself; intense and gripping, with a small physical price and a larger monetary bill--wish I could afford more of this!
