Our Brown Bag Series Berliner Weisse is a tart, fruity, highly effervescent and refreshing ale. Relatively low in alcohol at only 3.4% this highly sessionable brew has a light body and a very dry finish. A regional specialty of Berlin, it was referred to by Napoleons troops in 1809 as "the Champagne of the north" due to its lively and elegant character. Described by some as the most purely refreshing beer in the world, only two traditional breweries still produce this style.

Tap at Rogue Island, Providence. It pours hazy pale gold with a fizzy white head. The nose is earthy, cracker, light barnyard, grainess and natural yoghurt. The taste is crisp, tart, fresh acidity, lime, lactic bite, lemon sherbet, minerals, alka seltzer, wheat and cracker with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, effervescent carbonation. Pretty refreshing. Respectable Berliner Weisse.

Tap @ Pony 08.20.2015, Andy and Streets. Glossy yellow-white almost colorless. Minimal white head even when stirred, no lacing. Nose is a little tinny, some light grassy notes and sweet. Similar palate, lot of metallic stuff going on. Some fun spicy notes on the way down.

Light hazy yellow with a paper thin white head. Aroma of wheat and lacto. Taste is muted wheat and lacto, a bit weak, watered down even for a Berliner.

Growler: Briney lemon and malt nose. Hazy pale yellow, medium rapidly dissipating head. Quite tart lemon, maybe lime. Malt finish. Light body, easy carbonation. Very good example of the style. I love the lower alcohol content. Authentic.
